Mesh Computers? Value For Money

Hello I got a Mesh MultiMedia Computer with a TeraBit Of Memory 500GB
Vista etc from Ideal World it was there Pick Of The Day supposely reduced from £799 to £599 it has a 30 days money back gaurantee from Ideal World the thing is I am not sure exactly what they mean by this gaurantee can I actually try out the PC to see if I like it or just unpack it look at it not turn it on ? to be covered by this gaurantee for Peace Of Mind.

I was looking on Mesh Computers website www.meshcomputers.com
I only want a PC for good future proof storage little office work surfing and
watching YouTube etc.
They are giving me a 19inch Monitor currently I wonder is it worth upgrading and investing in a 22inch Flat Monitor?

Anybody experienced this? Mech's tech support 1 year is on Premium Rate line 0871 and 0870 numbers open till 8pm weekdays and 4 pm Sat closed Sunday.

10pence per minute are there long ques do they get very busy?
I was just wondering the reason they get so many Awards is because they take out so much advertising in the Magazines that give them those awards in the first place:) ?
Any ideas is this the best company to go with?

Thanks

Heidy

My advice would be don't touch Mesh with a barge pole. Worst customer service and technical support I've ever experienced. There was a genuine reason they were on BBC Watchdog. And they haven't changed since then.

I won't go into my entire experience (you should be able to find it in my previous posts and on the hexus.net forums and hexus reviews). But in general: started with graphics card going faulty and 3 year onsite warranty. It has taken over nine months to get a working pc and that was only because I told my parents who own the pc to buy their own card and I installed it myself. This doesn't include the 100s problems in that time (eg workshop making the pc worse each time, they spilled coffee down pc, refusal to come on site etc etc etc). The number and variety of errors, incompetance, problems goes way way beyond me being statistically unlucky. They are consistent in one thing only, they don't do things right.

Here's Mesh's 'customer support' section: http://forums.hexus.net/forumdisplay.php?f=104 I wouldn't bother calling the phone number as they'll only promise to call you back and that call will never materialise.

Mesh are ok if you've some experience with computers and can therefore fix any little hiccups like blown psu, fans not working, new motherboard replacements etc yourself. If you can't, you may wish to look elsewhere as the guy on the Mesh forums isn't really bothered. If you're looking to purchase a laptop from Mesh I would seriously reconsider your options.
It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

as people have mentioned mesh claim to have won alot of awards but like with most companies there are bad and good experiences

i have only heard of bad experiences

for the money that you paid you could have got a good dell system - but some people would complaina about dell as well but my experince with them has been okay

for a computer with 1gb of ram and 500 gb of hard drive you should pay about £450 - £500 even from pc world - less with dell

consdiering this site is only displaying 1 type of computer as well would ring alarm bells with me perosnally

  • I've bought three Mesh machines over the past 5 or 6 years. Have always been great value-for-money and decent customer support. Over those 5 or so years I have needed to contact them a number of times, and twice due to failing components. One was a 9-month old motherboard which they replaced within a week. The second was for a hard drive whose SMART was reporting an imminent problem. Again, they sent out a replacement quickly, no questions asked.

Personally, I would be happy to recommend them again.

I 'sort of' currently have a Mesh computer now, but I have swapped out so many individual components, there is probably not much left of the original PC. Perhaps the sound card is original.

Not the company I know, sounds like you were lucky rather than me being unlucky. As I mentioned the sheer number of complaints led them to being featured on Watchdog with people having actually worse experience than me which I wouldn't have thought possible. I'd like to know how you got a replacement motherboard, ours was changed twice and they point blank refused to do it onsite, so obviously that's a month lost each time the pc is sent return to base.

As for my experience (warning 9 pages of posts):

    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=99249

    And a summary review:

If you read everything that happened to me I don't think anyone in their right mind would be able to say it's a good company and I was just unfortunate. As I've said it covers 100s of individual things over nine months of which they didn't do anything right. They even suggested that I was having so many problems because of something in "my environment"! That doesn't really cover the poor call centre people or the bloody coffee spilled down our pc by the repair workshop people. They sent out an onsite engineer only once (with the wrong parts obviously) and he couldn't believe (they're independant contractors and aren't employed by Mesh) the old parts they'd used as replacements and he said he couldn't understand what the repair centre had done to the pc. And that was just one incident!!!

I too have used Mesh Pc's for the Last 4-5 years & have never really had a problem with them i have bought about 8 Pc's for my company & never really had many problems I had to have some memory replaced on one & that was done within a week so i'm pretty happy with them TBH

I also have 2 Personal Mesh computers at home & nothings ever gone wrong with either of them *touches wood*

I've also recommended Mesh to several friends over the years and only one person has had a problem with them & is my only gripe with them he bought his PC with the 3 yr RTB warranty and had some sort of failure he spoke to mesh & they sent out a courier to pick it up & it was back with him within 2 weeks total so he was happy. then the Hard Drive Failed (It Happens) so he contacted them again & they instructed him to send it to them via courier and when he inquired how he would be reimbursed for the courier charge they said check your t&c's we only pay for the courier in the 1st year you pay for the following two years i thought this was disgusting (small print) & contacted my business sales manager to check it he said don't worry it won't apply to you as your Business we'll over look the charge but your friend will have to pay it "needless to say i haven't recommended them since"

But i don't think there as bad as everyone's making out

I think you should read my links, I've not a exaggarated a single thing, and see if I'm overreacting. I've had people contacting me after starting those threads to tell me that they have had similar problems. I'd love to hear any kind of explanation for my experience other than it's a bad company. They could have turned it around and put things right at any stage, but they kept on compounding their errors. Did you see the Watchdog item, some of those people's experiences made mine look like a walk in the park?
