help! have tried using the windows media player etc to save tracks to my mp3 and it wont let me as teh media player 'isnt genuine'. How do I do it now?

What do you mean media player isn't genuine? Try downloading the latest media player from Microsoft.

try freerip mp3. Its what I use. You just put in your music cd,click which tracks you want and it converts them. http://www.freerip.com/0

You can download free mp3s (commercial ones, and ones uploaded by unsigned bands) from we7.com. The licensing is paid for by a 10 second advert at the beginning of each mp3. At the moment these are just ads for we7 itself (so the website must be losing a helluva lot of money until it can generate a revenue stream).

Make sure that you turn off digital rights management before you re-rip the cd
Look under the Tools | Options menu then click on the Copy Music tab. Uncheck the Copy Protect Music box0
