Morrisons payment demand

Hi, not sure if this is the correct place for this subject. I wonder if anyone else has come across this action before.I have just received a letter from Morrisons claiming over £100 they say is still outstanding for a grocery delivery they say they made in April 2016. This is the first thing I have heard about it.I have not made an online order with Morrisons for a long time.
I immediately queried the demand for payment and said i had no recollection of an order being delivered 14 months previously. However if they were to show me a proof of delivery to show I did actually receive the order I would be happy to pay.I also queried the fact that on all online orders I had made I was required to pay for the goods upon ordering and obviously before they were delivered.
Morrisons sent a what they claim to be a printed receipt for the order....no signature at all, and claim that they would have took the payment after it had been delivered.
They then claim to have tried to contact me on my home phone but it was unavailable.I have had the same number for the last 27 years. What happened in the intervening 14months I do not know.
I repeated my request for some actual proof that I had received this order and was told that it was not them that had to prove I had received the delivery but I had to prove I had not, which seems bizarre.
They then said that if I would not pay immediately they would place things in the hands of a debt collection agency with all the associated extra costs.
What next..

Can you check your old emails, see if there is any record of it? Do the items look like they would be your order?
It is for them to prove you made the order, and they feel they have done this by providing the receipt. If it went as far as small claims court, the judge may or may not accept this as proof.
If you did make/ receive the order, they have up to six years to take the payment. If you fail to pay and they take it to court it will cost you a lot more. I'd be trying to find a record of your old orders to establish if you are liable or not.0 -

Odd that they are (apparently) only chasing the OP for payment more than a year on.
I'm certain there is far more to this story...0 -
Is the receipt itemised, and does it match with what you would have bought? I expect everybody's shopping orders are just a little bit different - for example, if I saw a receipt with fresh fruit or veg listed, I'd know it wasn't my order (because I never buy those online). I know that wouldn't help in a court but, if the items listed look "right" for you, then it might prompt you to re-check your emails around that date ...
I had a problem with payment for a Tesco order a few weeks ago (changed payment card). They telephoned before the van left the store. I'd be surprised that Morrisons deliver without guaranteed funds.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

It might be worth trying to call them again. Another member of staff might be better able to explain why they believe you received, but have still to pay for, the items and provide you with all their evidence.
If you dispute you owe them money then make clear to them, in writing, that you dispute the debt and that if they believe otherwise they should send you a copy of all their evidence and then sue you. If they do sue you then the onus will be on them proving, on the balance of probability, that you did receive, but have still to pay, for the items. (Be aware, if they do sue you and win then you might have some additional costs to pay.)
If a debt collector does turn up then simply tell them you dispute the debt and to not bother you again unless they can prove otherwise. They have no legal powers.0 -
Payments can fail and payments can be recalled. Saying 'you take payment before delivery' doesn't mean that it actually went through.
You know you've shopped online at Morrisons. Check your statements?
If you got a delivery and didn't pay, whatever the reason for the non payment, you owe the money.0 -
As other posters have suggested the first thing you need to do is to check your emails to see if you have actually made an order on that date and then check to see if the money has come out your bank. I would also check the previous order and see if payment was correctly taken.
You need to find out if you actually owe this money before you start arguing that you don't.0
