The fact that Aldi is creating 4k jobs is not a beacon of prosperity really.
Unless needed, most would have little desire to go shop at Aldi. I suspect working at Aldi is not high on the career aspiration either. Maybe you need to dig a bit more and ask why.
4k jobs is prosperity for Aldi - and judging by their sales as well as this expansion, your suggestion that "most would have little desire to go shop at Aldi" doesn't hold water does it?
Also I'm sure Aldi employees will be so pleased to learn that a job there isn't aspirational; they must not have career advancement into management in your opinion then?0 -

You're confusing desire with need.
Do shopper go to Aldi because it offers then superior products or because of value?
If Aldi offered the same item at the same cost of Sainsburys would people still go there?
Actually I did have a schoolmate and all she wanted to do was working for a supermarket at the checkout! I always thought she was the odd one but maybe it's what folks in the UK dream to do as a job.EU expat working in London0 -

What a load of juvenile male cattle you attempt.
Because according to your thinking the record sales of their "premium" ranges means that these have become necessities obviously. The budget chain’s “specially selected” premium range saw sales rocket 27 per cent
It seems then that your opinion bears no relation to established fact whatsoever.0 -

Perhaps you've missed the much much earlier news of HSBC restructuring itself globally. Far too easy to bury bad news once there's other events hitting the headlines. Nor forget we don't like highly paid bankers in the UK. Funny how the wind changes.0 -

Like Lidl, a private business. From my years of being involved in Germany owned private companies. The trail normally stops dead at Lichtenstein. Thereafter totally off shore. If you feel you wish to stop the rot buy from a Co-Operative organisation. Either National or Local. Then you'll makr a difference.0 -

Finland fought three separate Russian invasions but fought them off. Finland was not occupied.
As for Ireland, please don't be silly.0 -

Aldi turnover more per employee than Tesco et al. Therefore if Aldi's market share is growing there's a good chance that the number of workers in the grocery sector is falling.

It can't just be me who is slightly disgruntled about have to pay for greeters, trolley collectors, security guards and the rest via my weekly shop.
I'm quite happy to be offered less choice. It's a pain in the chuff trying to choose between 20 varieties of baked beans. Two is plenty for me.0 -

Yet people must own an iPhone. Or drive a BMW. Or go to Florida for their holidays.0 -
