    They already trade.
    They already have working relationships.

It's all about politics. They could fudge together any variation of deal at the last minute.

The EU wants 2 things and they are almost contradictory.

They don't want to send out a message that a leaving state will profit from leaving. They don't want to damage the economic interests of the remaining member states. Driving your neighbour into recession would inevitably have some blow back, and it's not like all of the EU is in rude health.

But...you know what. What do I care? We pay people good money on both sides to sort this out. It's their job to deliver.

Actually they must want a third thing.
For it be over. This has already dragged on for a year and Brexit is overhanging too many things.
If Brexit happens come end of March 2019 both Britain and the EU need to get on with the job of being Britain and the EU.

Do I care, yes passionately as I feel it is a huge misstep by my country of birth, Britain.
12 months on my concerns for my personal position (a Brit living in a EU Country) have largely subsided but my believe that Britain should not leave the EU has only become stronger.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

Doesn't the EU want trade? You talk as if everything is one sided. Outside the political sphere of Brussels. There's the everyday world. Real people, real jobs, the real economy. Making an example of the UK may simply stir up more negative feelings towards the project.

Of course the EU wants trade and I imagine wants Brexit to disrupt that trade (with Britain) as little as possible.

Let's not get into who needs who more but just to say both sides need to be pragmatic. I recognise that while the politicians will think about trade and try to minimise any disruption, Company's have already had 12 months to take or plan action.

British Company's should, we are told, be growing their export business to non EU country's spectaculary.
EU Company's will already have take action to fill any gap a hard Brexit will make in their exports.
The world turns and as the old saying might say "business waits for no politicians."
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

Further confirmation, if such were still needed (some folks are slow on the uptake) that:
    • We're leaving the single market
    • We're leaving the customs union
    :T:T:T

It's not over till the fat lady sings.

UK doesn`t need to rule the world, just itself, the idea that the EU is a financially stable club worth joining is laughable, but people know this or they wouldn`t have voted to leave.

thats very interesting but not really true surely.
Just under 52% of the people who bothered to vote, voted to leave for many reasons but only a few voted to leave because they thought the EU was a financially unstable club that they wanted to leave.
Perhaps they could be counted on the fingers of one or perhaps two hands.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

By the way, in case you guys have not seen this

Guy Verhofstadt to UK: You can stay in EU, but lose perks

I don't know if he is correct in thinking the EU Parliament has that power, but it certainly consolidates my view, as an ex avid Remainer, that since the Referendum decision was made it has been in our national interest to pursue Brexit with all the vigour that we can. I don't want to go back to a hostile Europe much as I would have preferred not to leave in the first place.

Those that put obstacles in the way of Brexit are really not helping. A touch of realism is overdue.

I think he was speaking to the EU audience. Many need reassuring that Britain will leave and that the EU will not let Britain change its mind.

Sadly Greece is not front of mind for the majority in the EU.
Brexit is also slipping away from most Europeans thoughts as well.
However the two issues effect the EU in different ways.

The Greek "crisis" just rumbles on.
Brexit has a predicted end so let's get there as soon as possible.

In addition one problem perhaps they can cope with but two makes them think that "let's get one done and dusted."

The only thing "front of mind for the majority in the EU" is self-preservation. Until something happens to break the existing status quo (and it will, sooner or later) the thoughts of "most Europeans" goes no further than their day-to-day existence.

Greece is a problem as yet unresolved, as is the continuing migration problem, banking problems and far more. In fact it looks like Italians are increasingly unhappy with the EU, just as many Dutch showed they were in their recent elections and even the French too.

Source: thelocal.it (I'm not allowed to post links.)
Despite this the EU continues to literally cover its ears and shout "la la la", doing little more than hope these difficulties just go away.
Well, so far they have not and they show no signs of doing so.

Meantime pro-EU supporters like you seem to be getting increasingly desperate both with the sheer volume of posts and with the vehemence of pro-EU rhetoric. Look above; five posts in a single thread, one after the other? Plus other threads too?
If it is not attempted subversion, perhaps you would tell readers like me on these forums what it is?
From where I'm sitting, it looks pretty much like a last desperate attempt at subversion and to deny that Brexit will indeed mean the UK fully leaving the EU despite repeatedly being told by assorted government figures (David Davis being just one example) that we will indeed leave the EU.

I do not mean to offend but I think that soon, maybe very soon, your pro-EU beliefs are going to be proven just as wrong as were so many vocal pro-SNP supporters prior to the recent election.

If you are referring to my posts there is no attempt to subvert! Chance would be a fine thing. You will find most posters including me have fairly entrenched views.
I try to spread some information and offer my point of view which in this thread tends to be unique as I do not live in Britain.
From a practical point of view I sometime don't visit the thread for 12 to 24 hours and then find some posts I would like to reply to which might show up as five posts in a row.
Everyone has their habits, that is mine.
Perhaps before jumping in you should take your time to get an idea of how this (strange) world works and perhaps read the posts.

Do you have personal experience of the bureaucrats of the EU.
By the way, where do you live?

Don't blame me, I voted Remain.
