Actually, you drop the initial zero, then add 0044.
As you please, fine if you travel only in Europe. But in North America for example, it won't work, you will need to use 01144 or +44 to dial or text direct from your handset.

    Correct

the + sign automatically reads the correct International access code

mentioning 00 or 011 just confuses things

The plus sign works everywhere (including your home country) and is the agreed international standard.

There is a free APP in Google play store which will format all your contact numbers in phone list with + and country code automatically

    Great for international travellers

I don't know about your particular phone, but it's worth trying a test call while here in the UK to a UK number using 0044 7xxxx (drop the leading zero from 07 or 01). You mentioned 00044, it's only two zeros with no "+" in front.

My iPhone has a dial assist feature that automatically changes home country numbers in the directory when you call from overseas.

We visit Spain several times a year and use Three with "Advanced" contract SIMs and have no issues with calls or texts.

I tried this today from my Sony Z compact handset (back in UK now) and it works. I did try this when abroad on Three CS advice and it did not work.

How do you add the +?

I've just tried it, and it instead adds a 0 (the + symbol is printed on the 0 button) instead. :(
