How much ram does a Mac mini have/ how much ram does the cheapest iMac have?

  • Personally I would buy a 2012 model with upgradable RAM.

I bought one second hand (£250), upgraded from 4GB to 16GB for less than £100 and I find it super.

Fitting the new RAM is the worlds simplest job.

The bottom is made to remove and the RAM clips out (to remove the old) and clips in (to fit the new).

All the bits you have will still work.

Restore a time machine backup of the old one and you have the same machine but much brisker !
  • One other thought, I have a Mac Book of a similar generation to your mini.

That was transformed by fitting an SSD. It was previously considerably improved by more RAM (up to the 2GB limit for that model in my case).

Buy a second hand mini to replace your one then think about what to do with the old one.

Keep the mini as a CD player.
