July 2017 Grocery Challenge

  • Costco trip achieved, and I am already $220 down (I'll find the exact number soon) but I have meat for 17-18 meals, plus there'll be leftovers from June for another two, so fingers crossed I should not need to darken the doors of another butcher in July. Plus I bought all the boring stuff like loo roll and dishwasher tablets, as well as staples I'd have bought anyway. I hope this plan works!

Think I would like to amend my total to £200, This to include all foods, cleaning products and toiletries, for myself and dog, trying to run a bulk buy fund too is just confusing.
Do I need it or just want it.

And after an epic Tesco's Big Shop (£91.39), a Home Bargains shop (£12.28), Fresh Items from the local shops (£5.85), a bottle of conditioner (75p) and adding on the bulk buys from last month to this month (£4.50) we have spent £121.82/£250 which is better than I had done by this point last month. Let's hope it continues.

Hi, I lurked for the second half of June, and I'm impressed by how little you all spend, and feeling somewhat ashamed of my usual monthly spend. I nearly didn't post here due to what seems an outrageous amount, and worrying you'd all think I was a loony. But here goes .........

Over the last 5 months I have spent an average of £800 a month. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 preteenage boys (who eat adult portions). My 'food' budget includes toiletries, cleaning products, medicines, and drink. We tend to entertain a lot also.
I would like to get this down a lot, hubby is starting a new career, and the training salary will be about 2/3 of what he has been earning.

I am going to aim for a July budget of £600

..... and now I will hide!

Hi there, I second what Fox said, there is no need to hide. We all have different needs and different things we include in the category, so you can't really compare one person's budget to another, I'm sure some think my budget for 2 people is high but luckily everyone is too nice to say so. There is no judgement here.

    Welcome Olgemama!
Don't worry about other people's budgets compared to yours - everyone includes or excludes different things, has different sized households and different needs. The one thing we all have in common is a need to get control over our budgets and it's a amazing, supportive place to help you do that.
