I wonder how they do these for such a low price.

Hi
There are lots of these EE data SIM cards on eBay.
They are preloaded with 10GB of data for 30 days.
Like this one here ---> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EE-4G-PAYG-Multi-SIM-Card-Preloaded-With-10GB-Data-for-30-Days-/262490671339
It says “Sim card will be opened for data activation.”
I wonder how they do these for such a low price.
What are they doing?
Buying blank SIM cards then loading them with time-limited data?
Similar to how we used to buy 30-day phone cards, where they bought the minutes in bulk then split them into smaller units to sell in newsagents etc.
(I suppose that is a similar model to "bucket shops" who sell airline tickets cheap in the last few days).
I wonder how they do these for such a low price.
Do you think they have bought a large amount of time-limited data from EE to re-sell quickly in 10GB chunks?
Or maybe it is EE offloading excess capacity through middle-men.

I think EE just do them like this from time to time.0

I used to use Three sims which were cheap but those cheap deals just vanished, I suspect that these may go the same way. I'm wondering if the networks issues stacks of them as a way of getting cash. A lot will be stored for a while and many will just get partial use and expire. If their appearance resulted in a shortage in capacity it probably wouldn't be a longterm one.0

£9 for 10gb isn't that cheap.......people have been used to paying stupid amounts for to long that when a good deal comes along they think it's dodgy0 -

I don't know whether they're dodgy or not.
But preloaded data SIMs supplied by EE are sealed and unactivated, not opened and activated.0 -
Well, £7.49 for 10GB is cheap imo... Unless you know of something else.

Compared to other countries UK prices for this sort of thing are expensive0 -
Your money saving advice, gardner1, is to move to a different country to get cheaper mobile data?!0

There are some EE reps listed on this forum...
Andrew_EE
Jenny_EE
Samantha_EE
Zain_EE
CarlT_EE
Charlotte_EE
Alex_EE
They haven't replied to this thread, but maybe they haven't seen it.
They don't accept PMs, how do I get a response from one of them?
Please will a forum mod try to contact them for me.0 -
Morning Bat999,
The limited time data offer PAYG SIM cards require a top up for example £10 or £15 depending on the SIM. Once you have topped up the required amount you then text the keyword on the packaging to redeem the 10GB which will be valid for 30 days. It doesn’t appear to be made clear via 3rd party sites that you would need to top up the SIM before you’d benefit from the 10GB.
We’d always advise coming directly to EE to make sure that any offers and promotions are legitimate.
Thanks, Jenny“Official Company Representative

OK, thanks for your reply.
But it says the SIM cards will have already been opened by the 3rd party seller and the 10GB will have already been activated by him and the 30 day clock will have been set running...
"*** sim will be opened to activate the data ***”
"NOTE: The 10GB data is valid for 30 days from the day of dispatch"
No mention of needing a topup until...
"When you have used up your 10GB data you can top up your data online or over the phone"
Here are some examples at £9.99 --->

So it looks as though these guys know how to use "limited time data offer PAYG SIM cards" and activate the 10GB without having to topup first.
They have been trading on eBay for a long time and they have excellent feedback.
I'm sure somebody would have complained "Oy, you never told me I would have to topup ten quid first!"0
