Virgin PAYG £2 charge for internet

A couple of weeks ago I bought a phone from Virgin mobile. Since then I have been charged 4 lots of £2 for 'Using the internet' (sic).
I have NEVER used the internet on this phone. Yesterday I turned on the phone and phoned Virgin customer service (on 789) to ask something.

Virgin have charged me JUST TO TURN THE PHONE ON.

You have been warned!

What a way to make money.

I strongly suspect you have bought a smartphone that automatically connects with the internet. No network, incl Virgin. charges you for turning the phone on.

I believe £2 is Virgin's daily charge for using data. If you go into the settings and turn off mobile data, these charges should stop, but your phone and apps won't update themselves and you won't be able to send/receive MMS.

1p mobile charge 1p per MB and Three charge 1p per MB. I assume you didn't purchase one of their monthly bundles, in which case you will pay 35p per min on calls and 12p per text.

By comparison 1p charge 1p/min and Three charge 3p/min.

Think you made a poor choice going to Virgin on PAYG.

you need to change your phone settings to ensure mobile data is off.

You would be better off paying virgin sim only @ £6 per month which would include data and 300 minutes per month.
Depends how much you top up a month?
