Ebay - buyer wants to return item

Hi,
I sold an item of clothing, brand new, from a well known High Street shop, still with the tag. Buyer has said it doesn't fit them and wants a refund (less fee).
What should I do? I've never come across this before. Should I refund them less the Paypal fee? What about the Ebay fees (not sure how to work them out)? What about the amount they paid for postage and packing?
I'm not a big seller on ebay, just someone selling stuff I don't wear or doesn't fit me.
Help!

Did you state that you accept refunds for items that are not faulty?
Assuming you listed the make and size correctly, I would not refund.
If you are to refund, I would ask them to return the item (at their cost) and refund minus the p&p cost and fees.0 -
I've bought one or two things on Ebay which haven't fitted but have taken it on the chin rather than ask for my money back. Suprised that someone is doing this, after all, maybe they've just put on weight like I had!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0

I didn't state anything about returns, I hadn't thought about it. Does that make a difference?0

if you have sold it at the correct size and do not want to refund and have put on your return policy 7 days then you might want to offer her a refund
if you didnt put anything on the returns policy tell her it was sold as described and dont give her a refundNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0 -

If you're a private seller just flogging off your surplus domestic items, you do not need to offer a refund.
Just explain that it was listed correctly and it's not your responsibility to ensure that people buy the correct sized clothes.0 -
I wouldn't refund! If you listed the size correctly it isn't your fault that it doesn't fit them, explain this to them and suggest they try to sell it on themselves.DFW no.630!

Some people are beyond belief.
Ebay is not a catalogue whereby people buy something and if it doesn't fit they can send it back ... as long as you put the size on etc, it doesn't matter if it fits her or not ... keep your money and don't refund is my advice.0 -
I wouldn't be refunding either. I don't accept returns on any item unless there is a fault with the item which is very few and far between.
The buyer is responsible for ensuring they are buying the correct size and if it doesn't fit then so be it. I have bought a few things recently and for various reasons I haven't liked them once I have tried them on.....just as soon as I get Betty (my mannequin!) back from a friend the items will be getting re-listed as I wouldn't have dreamed of asking for a refund!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

The buyer said they are usually this size. I know some people tend to put measurements of items laid flat but I hadn't as it's not something I've ever found useful if buying clothes myself as people can be pretty inaccurate in measuring. Does it matter that I hadn't put these measurements on?
The item is from a high street shop found in virtually every town and city. I sometimes buy clothes on ebay myself but only buy things that I know I fit the size in that shop. I assumed other people would do the same.
I'm really worried about getting a negative over this. There's a part of me thinks that maybe I should offer a refund, on the following proviso:
1. They have to pay the return postage.
2. I will deduct the costs to me of ebay fees, paypal fees, postage and packing (totals over £4).
3. I won't refund until after the item has been received back, and it must be in the same condition as was sent.
4. I'll refund via Paypal only.
Does that sound reasonable? To be honest, the only reason I'm even considering this is that that item got several bids, so I could be reasonably confident of being able to sell it again.0 -
Don't refund cos you think she might neg! If she does just neg her back, you are not a shop where people can just return items! I never put measurements unless the garment states it just the normal shop size, as you say they should know if that shop size 10 etc will fit them!DFW no.630!
