Cash Generators 7 day policy etc.

Hi I have recently purchased an iPod nano series whilst I was visiting my family in another part of the country. When I bought it I was ensured that there were no faults with the device besides the scratches on it.
A few days later I returned home, got it all fired up and it turns out that the hold button is broken. I have looked at the CG terms and conditions and it says:
"If you change your mind you are able to return a product that you have purchased in-store within 7 days.
You must return the items(s) to the store that it was purchased from without undue delay, and at least within 7 days from the day on which you purchased the product."
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't I have 28 days to get a refund? I am not 100% fussed if I can't get a refund and have to use the 6-month warranty in-store to have it fixed (still got the receipts). However, I am worried that they will just try and sell me a bull**** story that will feature lines such as "you noticed this outside the 7-day period", "you can't use the warranty in this store or for that reason" or just anything to try and push me away from getting my problem resolved because of their fault.
Does anybody know any of the law or rules surrounding this issue?
Thanks

You are not changing your mind, you want to return the thing because it doesn't conform to contract.
You have a statutory right under The Consumer Rights Act to return the goods and receive a full refund at any time in the first thirty days following the sale if they do not conform to contract.
I'm not sure of the structure of Cash Generators, but I think each store is a separately franchised business, so you may well need to return it to the store you bought it from.0 -
