I've just bought the Miele cylinder S5210, which was recommended by Which. Bought through 24 electric. I think it cost £118 and £3.50 or so from Quidco.

i just bought a miele cylinder too, as my family have had one since i was little and it never went wrong. i have known a few people to go through a dyson onceIa year and do not seem to be very well built.
I would recommend a meile, I have one of the smaller miele's which are quite lightweight too and really powerfull at the same time.

If I was to buy an upright it would have to be a sebo.

i have a henry thats fell down the stairs a couple of times and sucked up the odd items here and there and its still going strong. A mate of mine had a dyson which lasted 3 months before it broke. Also if anybody goes to car boot sales how many dysons do you see for sale? loads. ive only ever seen 1 henry at a car boot sale and ive been going for years.

I am a Miele "cat and dog" owner.....I had a Dyson before that after owning another Miele. The Dyson was always having to be dismantled and cleaned and to have hairs dug out of it or was in the menders. I don't think I even owned it a year. In the end I ceremoniously threw it in a skip and got the "cat and dog" and never looked back!

John Lewis do recommend the Sebo so that for me is good enough too!
My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.

  • i own miele cat and dog and it is the best thing i have ever bought, owning 2 cats, one will long black fur, it has no trouble picking up the pet hair. had a turbo vax upright before that, but was too afraid to use it as everytime i switched it on with my foot i would get static shocks. so buy the miele, you won't regret it....

The Bissell for £50 refurbisehd (http://uk.bisell.com/) is really good but it is heavy.

If you can afford a Sebo then these are supposed to be amazing.

I bought a Hoover vacuum last year, it was pretty rubbish and failed after exactly 366 days. Well designed, 1 day after the warrenty ran out!

Argos do a really good explaination of all things vacuum cleaner related

I now have a Dyson, its brilliant.
