Virgin contract but moving to area Virgin do not cover

Hi
Anyone been in this position. We are on a Virgin TV / phone and broadband package. Moving to an area that has no Virgin coverage.
Virgin want £240 to cancel the contract early but is this fair when we wanted to transfer our contract to our new address - we had no idea that Virgin did not cover this town.
Any experience of this
thanks

This is a question that's been asked before, the consensus usually is that it's not VM that's changing the terms of the contract but you, by moving address, so ETC's are reasonable, the argument that you would use VM at the new address if they served that address unfortunatly won't help convince them to waive the fee, as far as I know the only company that has to offer telephony service at every address in the UK is BT , (or KC in Hull) , VM are not obliged to serve your new address

If it did work then everyone would say they were moving to a non VM area.

Asked several times a week...the answer does not change. The contract is at the current address, not any other UK address. There are huge areas of the UK that VM does not cover.

A few years back they did offer ADSL but it had such a dismal reputation for performance that I suspect just about the only customers on it were those who took it rather than pay the early termination fee. If they had any sense then those people would ditch it once their 12 month sentence was served.

I guess that some accountant figured that there were bigger profits in just collecting the early termination fees. Just about all VM ciustomers with any gumption will still be in their minimum term as that fits VMs business model of trading a price increase for a new minimum term when people call in for a better deal.
