Internet TV reccomendations

Options
We do like having cabled TV but it costs too much and we will not have a BT line or Sky.

Wondering if TV channels via the internet cope with HD and what the best/cheapest package might be? Recommendations appreciated.

I think the problem here is how well your internet supply can deal with HD, rather than the programme suppliers.

We are on Virgin cable, so the BB is solid.

If you 'won't have a BT line', then how do you get your broadband? The only alternatives are VM (which you say is too expensive), or mobile broadband, which can be very variable in speed, depending on location and provider. Streaming HD is best done via cable or landline-you don't necessarily need FTTC.

It depends on what channels you want to watch and what you will use for broadband.

I find that I get a much better quality picture when streaming than via my Sky box, I didn't have Sky HD though.

I cancelled Sky last year and still get freesat through the box (appreciate this isn't an option for you), but actually rarely watch it. I subscribe to Amazon videos, Netflix & NOW TV, all three for around half the cost of what I used to pay for a fairly basic Sky package. Which is best for you depends what you like to watch, of course.

Amazon Firestick (and plenty of other devices too, I expect) has free TV apps, including iPlayer, the ITV / Channel 4 / Channel 5 equivalents, UKTV Play and YouTube of course - so you don't necessarily have to subscribe to anything.

Could look at price of satellite reception but still need a phone line for transmitting. Either way used to be a lot dearer than ADSL and cable.

Only other way is look in to wifi with its implications. Streaming Netflix uses around 3Gb an hour, way that up over a month then you will think a landline and FTTC from BT is cheap.

    What about Amazon?

Need to make it clear, we do not want a BT line or Sky in any way shape or form. We are fine with the Virgin telephone and Broadband, but the TV costs are crazy.

If you are out of contract with VM then cancel the TV .VM are likely to come back with an offer .
Basically you start by working out what channels you want then find who supplies .
