Switching electricity tariff to EON

My EDF deal was coming to an end so I tried to switch to EON via the energy club.
I assumed it was all going ahead, however, just received a call and email telling me I have a complex meter (first I have heard of it!) and the e7 tariff can't be used with my meter. However, they do have a dearer option if I want!
Has anyone else heard of a complex meter? Apparently I have 8.5 hrs on cheaper rate over night. Don't have storage heaters in house, but think meter is from when house may have had them. Shame I don't have electric car to charge overnight! :

Do not attempt to swich supplier with that type of metering
Attempts invariably lead to tears.
Alarm bells should have rung when you discovered your existing tariff was not being shown on the CEC, so making any comparison you did useless.
If you own the property, you can ask EDF to change the metering. A cost may apply and you should seek expert advise on what else may need to be changed first (you should have got all this info before you bought the property)
If you rent, then consider moving0 -

Hello Ali321 and welcome to the Forums.
Sorry we weren't able to help you on this occasion. From what you've said, it sounds like you've what's known as a Restricted Hours Tariff (RHT) metering set up. These were designed mainly for all electric properties with storage heaters and electric water immersion heaters. They give a number of hours of cheaper off peak electricity for heating and water heating purposes. To work, they're wired directly into the heating circuits at individual properties. Within this off peak period, there are a number of hours where all electricity is charged at the cheaper prices.
We only have the one tariff available for these types of meter. This will be the dearer option you mention.
Sorry again we weren't able to give you a better quote but hope this explains.
