Latest thing scammers do on eBay is to send empty box, they get the signature or certificate of posting and you are done.

It does not help that the low cost couriers who pay their Couriers 65p and even then only if they get it on first delivery, are stealing items too, the key is to always sign UNCHECKED or UNEXAMINED or to open it right there before you sign.

    Can't trust anyone these days!
where do you get that from as most delivery drivers are self employed these days, they has nothing to do with scammers sending empty boxes

Of course they're self-employed ... that means the courier company can avoid various taxes and other liabilities that would otherwise be required for having employees. Still doesn't change the fact that courier drivers get "paid" a pittance.

self employed franchises they pay upto £50,000 depending on the courier company ( this gives them the van, training etc.), they get paid £100 to £300 a day depending on how many parcels they can deliver.
unless it is hermes where anyone with their own vehicle can be a courier as you use your own vehicles and it is upto you when your deliver the goods as you can do school run, have afternoon tea etc. and then decided to deliver parcels at 4pm even though you collected them at 7am from the depot as they dont have a set structure.

    You have misunderstood.

If by self employed you mean the zeo hours contract,
No they pay a franchise fee and get a van, uniform, training and a dedicated territory. They get paid by the amount of parcels they deliver.
    They become franchisees (self employed)
I spend 4 years driving a City Link van and was making £250 to £400 a day depending on deliveries.
I paid £25,000 for the franchise. When they folded, me and a few other drivers went to get our vans as when we paid the fee were told after 1 year the vans would be ours, but it seems all the vans were on lease, so we had no rights to them although we could have bid for them at auction.

Paypal claim only requires the seller to add a tracking number and this can be anything, just need to show they sent it out in a claim as that is all they they ask from the seller.

Wrong, the tracking has to be checkable online.

OP, open up a claim with Paypal. You will get your money back.

There is a forum for posts like this http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=40

    Interesting read though.
  • Ebay/paypal have always been good to me on the occasions I have had this happen to me. Twice I have bought something it has just not turned up and I have raised it with them. Both times they have refunded, no problem.

Ebay tell me they have a money back guarantee. The seller has not responded to them or myself and there is no postage or tracking showing on the item so it's obviously a scam.

As you have an INR case open you now need to wait. On day 8 you can escalate the case to eBay and you will be refunded.

For clarity on the advice already given, Paypal and eBay require online tracking showing delivery for seller protection. It cannot be a random tracking number, it has to be relevant to your address. A Royal Mail tracking number showing delivery from a delivery office in Cumbran will not be sufficient if the addressee lives in Cheltenham.

There is a dedicated eBay board, PM one of the board guides and ask them to move it for you. There is a sticky thread on the eBay board which will give you all the information about protecting yourself as buyer/seller when using Paypal/eBay.

The vendor could be ill, in hospital, died, computer stolen or broken...
    It happens.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
