It's a bit of a strange situation, which is why I asked for advice.

This ebayer has been a member for about 9 months and has a feedback score of just 9, but it was 100% and made up of very good comments. I get the impression that he may not be a young man.

The first message he sent to me at the end of the auction was mainly a rant at Ebay and how it shouldn't be allowed that people can make dying-seconds bids. He'd been bidding on two of my auctions that were for sound system items that could be used together and he'd bid quite high on both auctions only to lose out with seconds to go on the one auction and I think he needed to vent his spleen. I can understand that the item he won might not be much use to him without the other and I think he may have been a bit naive in his approach.

I am a honest ebayer with impeccable feedback and I'm pretty laid back about this kind of thing so if he'd have messaged me to explain the situation we could have mutually agreed to cancel it without any ill-feeling.

The situation as it stands now is I've cancelled the sale and it's awaiting the buyer's confirmation, which I doubt will happen because he made it pretty clear that he was finished with ebay! I made a second chance offer which was accepted this morning for 2 quid less than the top bid so, fingers crossed, the situation has sorted itself out.

    as stated here

tell the buyer to go here https://ocsnext.ebay.co.uk/ocs/sr and then type in Cancel an order and this will give then a link to open, so they can chose the item they want to cancel. or you could open that URL and then type in Reporting an issue with a buyer and the first box will link you to cancel a sale
A buyer can't directly cancel a transaction on eBay UK (this option is only available on the German eBay site due to local distance selling regulations - I have had this confirmed by eBay). All a buyer can do on eBay UK is ask the seller to cancel it who can refuse if they wish.
