Buyer doesn't want item he's just won - what now?

I'm having a bit of a clear out and selling a few items on ebay, something I've only done on rare occasions in the past.

I've just sold an item (cash on collection) for just over £100 and almost immediately received a ranting message from the successful bidder saying he's not happy with the way the auction went on another item I've sold and, as a result, he doesn't want the item he's won and won't pay for it.

What do I do now? I'm going to do a second chance offer but what do I do about this ebayer? Do I report him somewhere? Can he leave me negative feedback? Just not sure how I deal with it.

    Get him to cancel it. And then block them

    Was he bidding on another item too? And this was revenge bidding??

    I had a sound system and another similar item on a second auction ending a few minutes apart. It turns out he wanted to win both lots but someone pipped him at the post on the other auction.

    I understand his frustration but his message to me made it quite clear he won't pay and doesn't want it, and the manner of his messages suggests that he is finished with ebay and that is the end of the matter.

    Can I offer a second chance without him doing anything?

    Get him to cancel it. And then block them

    tell the buyer to go here https://ocsnext.ebay.co.uk/ocs/sr and then type in Cancel an order and this will give then a link to open, so they can chose the item they want to cancel. or you could open that URL and then type in Reporting an issue with a buyer and the first box will link you to cancel a sale

    Personally I'd open an unpaid item case, but I have very little tolerance for time wasters.

    I would first give them the chance to cancel the order. I have auto assistant set on my account, so if a buyer does not pay or cancel in the 4 days allowed then an unpaid claim is automatically started

    Thanks for all of your input. I've just gone on to the link, cancelled the sale, blocked the bidder and have made a second chance offer.
    I did respond to him quite politely explaining that I had no control over the way an auction pans out to which he replied he didn't give a s**t, he wasn't paying and so what?

    As annoying as it is I really just want to sell the item but I would like to let ebay know about his antics.

    I suppose you could report him for sending abusive messages, but in this case I most definitely opened an unpaid item case!

    ebay would do nothing, they would tell you that you are under no obligation to sell to the seller and they would cancel the sale and that could take several days

    I really don't follow that?

    An unpaid would take 6 days to complete and is started by the seller not the buyer. Opened on day 2, if not paid within 4 days of that the case can be closed, buyer cannot leave any feedback (they can after a cancellation) and FVFs are returned. Also and importantly buyer gets a strike, 2 non paying strikes in a single year would mean they are unable to bid on most sellers auctions as all sellers can block people with 2 or more strikes.

    However with cash on collection items a NPB is not always as straightforward due to the cash element and not wanting to accept PayPal. That is all covered in the sticky thread about the problems of cash on collection items.

  • As you've already cancelled the sale for him you can't then open an unpaid item (which I would recommend), but you should absolutely report him to eBay. Phone eBay customer service and tell them that you think he only bid to wreck your auction and never intended to pay, and tell them about the abusive language. They can read his messages to you, if you ask them to take a look. If he goes on to leave you negative feedback you can contact eBay again and point them in the direction of your previous report. It makes it more likely that you'll be able to get his feedback removed afterwards, although there are no guarantees.
