  • Hi again. I'm sorry if i appear to be going over the same thing again, I'm trying to help, but getting a little confused.

You say you were due to complete on Wednesday, then Friday, now hoping it will be Tuesday. Were you also planning to move house on Wednesday, then Friday, now Tuesday?

I just can't understand how you have been able to put the moving day back twice already without seriously upsetting everyone in the chain and incurring some huge costs.

I know you have been asked this already, but are you certain you understand the situation you are at and what is meant by completion? Completion is the day money changes hands and, in almost every case, everyone moves into their new house.

I'm not questioning your knowledge, just trying to understand what is happening and how it affects you, so sorry if this is coming across that way. It just doesn't seem possible to me that this is affecting completion, it sounds more like exchange of contracts. Just trying to help - honest!
  • Wed was to be the day money changed hands and everyone moved. That got put back to Friday, tenatively, however the sols said that it was more likely to be Tue. Friday didn't happen, so everyone is resigned to Tues now.

Everything is done and dusted on the purchase bar this statement holding up the draw down.

Deposits, balance of funds paid, contracts signed and exchanged, it is the mortgage company who are holding things up over this statement, which isn't our main account, is not the account we will be paying direct debt payments from which they have already verified, it is a dormant account but the only one with my name and address on it and according to their banking regulations as the mortgage is a joint mortgage they have to have this statement for their records before they will allow draw down. This was a curve ball thrown into the mix at the last minute by them, and miscommunicated by our broker, who did not think we needed it until the last minute.

As it has been a dormant account, old statements don't help. They need a current statement with the most recent address on it, hence waiting for it to arrive in the post.

They did not accept a letter from the bank confirming address of record and account number. They did not accept insurance policy statement with name & address on it. They did not accept sols confirmation. They are holding out for the official bank statement being sent in the post. They claim their hands are tied on this, it is a new policy implemented 1 Aug.

We have sold our house and are out of here tomorrow into a B&B til who knows when now, putting everything in storage tomorrow.

There's a 5 day postal strike on at the moment
and then there will be a backlog can you collect it if needs be or send via private courier.
  • No, can't collect, as bank statements get generated at the central bank (of whichever bank) and get printed and sent from there. Branches cannot print out an 'official' bank statement, they can only print out the text onto blank paper. When a request for a bank statement is made, it goes into the queue for all requests for statements and then printed and posted as it comes up in the queque. All requests are marked urgent, so there is no priority other than the date of the order and the time it came in. There is generally a 3-5 or 7-10 day turnaround depending on who you talk to or what part of the process you are looking at (3-5 for printing the statement and getting it into the post, 7-10 for arrival).

The order was generated on the 28th (of Sep). Friday would have been optimistic although when ordered we were told it would be there on Tuesday or Wednesday. What Tuesday or Weds is the question.

Ideally it has made it out of England prior to the postal strike and is being processed in Ireland for delivery early next week.

    Fingers crossed.

(Does my time on the phone with the bank show?)
