  • In my experience, Bush, Alba and Matsui are makes to be avoided like the plague!
Do yourselves a favour and save up your pennies for a better model!
It will work out more cost effective in the long run.
I have a Pure model and the sound is superb.

While listening to DAB on freeview is good it's a bit inconvenient carrying my 28 inch CRT telly into the kitchen. ;)

Plus as I have said before, Freeveiew doe snot have all the radio channels offered by DAB.

    Yeah Dogcat, Planet Rock rules!!!

Given that some people here seem to work for an Hi-fi magazine, I suspect they are pushing us to buy hi-fi systems that are very expensive. Maybe they have forgotten the name of this website.

Apparently you can't say !!!!ing here, which I think is a shame. It certainly prevents people from using descriptive and idiomatic English when describing inclement weather. Oh well, Daily Mail readers rule here, I suppose.

Daily Mail readers ruole here ? Don't be childish. The swear filter is to stop the site being blocked and / or flagged as adult content by automated filtering software thereby stopping people from accessing it. If you really feel the need to swear in public, there's plenty of other forums that will let you do just that :)

If you want to go down the DAB/Freeview route there's a Goodmans model GBD 5E which has a Dab Radio built in. You can listen to the DAB stations that are on Freeview plus many other via the DAB radio. Can also be connected to a HIFI via AUX connections. I have this model and it's really good. I good mine for Argos but I don't know if it's still available.

Bear in mind that DRM trials are currently taking place.

DRM will offer pan-european digital radio on AM and, if successful threatens to blow DAB out of the water:

    http://www.drm.org/

DRM radios are starting to appear in the UK:

    http://www.morphyrichards.co.uk/wizz400/index.pl?ORPGM=addToBasket&ORPGT=perl&ORPRD=27024&ORGRP=R11&ORCAT=SR03&ORLID=ENG

Expensive because the technology is new but will drop to DAB prices in a few years. (DAB was about the same price when it launched)
  • Ahem!!! As Martin said, this is a thread about finding the cheapest DAB radio, not for debating on the uselessness of DAB.

You are welcome to debate this in another thread, but could please you let this one go back to the original subject?

  • Do check by borrowing a friends DAB radio and setting it up where your unit would go. They're very sensitive and the reception checker

isn't very accurate. Pure is definitely the best make with much better reception in week signal areas. Morgan Computers do one called The Bug for £50 and its' superb.

iNest -- some great deals on a wierd mix of gadgets.

Do you know, or does anyone know, if the cheap Alba model at Argos can be used as a speaker for your computer? I want a digital radio, and my husband wants something portable to hook into his computer and get better sound than it has. We're not expecting great sound, mind you. I saw online that the Alba has a line in so you can connect it to a stereo system, but is that the same line that will let it act as the speakers for a computer?
