Laptop not switching on

I have an Acer Aspire 7535G laptop. So pretty ancient. I tried to turn it on earlier, both with and without ac adaptor. I can hear it powering up for like two seconds then nothing then it runs for another two seconds the nothing again The power light is on and some other lights are on, if the ac adapter is in then that lights up too but it's just not going on. I have tried taking battery out and trying to peer up without the battery for a bit etc but nothing seems to be working. Is it time for a new one?

Try this: take out battery and with it off press and hold down the power button for a full 30 seconds, then try again.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

^^ this - dont forget to also remove the power adapter .
What you are doing here is draining residual power from the internal capacitors

Hi, I've already tried that. Tried a different ac adaptor too.

Sorry to hijack this thread, kind of.

I have the same problem with my chromebook; it now no longer switches on readily by opening the lid or depressing the power button. Perhaps after about 9 attempts on average I can get it to work. It's outwith the warranty period and while I'm lucky in having another laptop to use, I prefer using the chromebook as it's much lighter and has the same HD screen as the laptop.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

I'd hazard a guess that it was running Chrome...

Check you haven't left anything in a USB socket . Mine wont start with a usb wifi dongle in for example although I can plug one in after it boots.

    OR

It may be that the memory has come loose.
    Remove the battery and unplug.
Look for the trapdoor on the bottom with the memory modules under it.
It might be a small trapdoor just for the memory or it might be under a larger door with the memory and the hard drive. You might need a small screw driver to undo screws and have a little pot or jar handy to put them in till you are finished.
Open it and check the memory modules are seated properly in their holders.

Sometimes one module will affect starting (if you've got more than one) and taking one out and trying again might do it. Sometimes you have to do a trial and error by swapping them around .

Dreamnine: Without knowing electronics, or a circuit diagram it can be hard. A service manual often helps too.

As a guess it would either be the on board power management is having a timing issue. Or, the board's reset (something on the board when you switch on resets all the electronics from spurious random values to set values), but these are wild guesses and I have not done component level repair on mboards in many decades, nor do I now or have manuals for this board, or an oscilloscope.
