best bank for use when stationed in Cypus

Hi, my Lad is due to be stationed out in Cyprus soon and he is wondering what would be the best bank/s for his daily use and for his savings. Any advice/suggestions would be great.

You could consider Starling Bank, no fees for foreign card or ATM use.

    There's a thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5649551

His unit will probably be the best people to ask. Forces personnel have been stationed on Cyprus for many decades

Don't want to seem harsh but if he's old enough to serve his country surely he's old enough to sort a bank account himself?

Don't you remember the comments when the Iranian navy detained some UK sailors in 2007 and "shock horror" took away one of their ipods!
    So no I'm not surprised.

I think you must have posted that in the wrong thread as there's no discernible connection (that I can see) with the previous posts in this one....

is in reply to veryintrigued's comment about OP's lad being 'old enough' to sort out his own bank account. Though quite why ownership of an iPod should imply immaturity I'm not sure:cool:

I did think this a little harsh. My own 'lad' is certainly 'old enough' to sort out his own bank account(s) and other financial affairs, and he does just that.

That doesn't stop him consulting me, nor does it stop me from doing research on his behalf. I have far more time, (& inclination) than he does:)

Fast-forward 10 years and imagine the potential disaster if it was an iPhone which was confiscated....

No means to pay for anything, no ability to contact anyone, no access to their bank account, no idea where they are, no maps to show them where to go...

Hopefully our armed services still train recruits not to be totally reliant on technology.
