Thomson Lakes/ Thomson Airways - online checkin

Options
Thought I'd share this just for some amusement value, it would probably sit as prettily on the "Praise, vents & warnings" forum. An alternate title could be - When is Thomson not Thomson?

Booked break in Austria with Thomson Lakes & Mountains and, for my sins, included flight was also with Thomson Airways. So I can check-in online as usually do for flights - er, no. Although they have same name, same pale blue & red corporate colours and same smiley logo, they find it more convenient (even if customer doesn't) to be different. So it will be queueing in the early hours to check-in at the airport. Still, shuffling along watching folk delay proceedings as they unpack their suitcases to redistribute the 100kg excess weight they've packed for a week or panic over the forgotten passport they didn't realise they needed, helps pass the time (watch me forget my passport now :rotfl:).

Maybe should have learned from a previous experience with Thomson, when bag drop was so disorganised, we had to queue just as long as would have done if not checked in online.

I am assured next year they will be different!

This is more than likely historical anomaly going back to a time when Lakes and Mountain's was a different company not part of Thomson. In fact, the Lakes and Mountains website is exactly the same as the Crystal Holidays one. There's a chance that Crystal (and therefore Thomson L&M) run on an altogether different computer system than Thomson Holidays.

Not that it makes it any easier for you of course. That said, you're absolutely right, you have to queue up at the airport either way, in reality online check-in with Thomson probably saves you very little time.

It'll all be TUI anyway soon. I'm sure someone on the board of that company owns shares in whoever makes the blue and red paint, the shopfront signs, and the aircraft painting hangars. Lost count of the tweeks to their image...

This was posted on Trip Advisor as well but only one person thought it worthwhile to respond, and that wasn't exactly a friendly reply lol.
