Can i make a claim?

Options
Hi All,

I booked return BA flights, aberden - LHR then LHR onwards, then the same journey home. This was last year, 2016.

BA cancelled my outward Aberdeen -LHR flight with 24hours notice and rebooked me 24 hours later. I objected and they finally flew me earlier.

So, can i claim compensation ? I thought not as i was not late in arriving but had i not intervened i would have been 24 hours late in arriving? They rebooked me 24 hrs later without any contact.

Im not usually that bothered about delays but i got caught up in the BA dramas this week too.
Thanks!!!!

Yes. You can. Read my guide about "rerouting".

Not sure there is any claim here at all. Slightly confused by the initial claim, if they put you on an earlier flight from Aberdeen to ensure you were able to make your connection at Heathrow and arrived at your destination as planned, then there is no delay and no claim

I misread the OPs initial explanation: whether compensation is due depends upon the timing of the alternative flight they took. The Regulation says that, if the original flight is cancelled with less than a week's notice, then compensation is due unless the rerouted flight

"allows them to depart no more than one hour before the scheduled time of departure and to reach their final destination less than two hours after the scheduled time of arrival"

So even if the arrival at the final destination is the same, if they had to leave more than an hour earlier than originally planned they are entitled to compensation, as I read it.

But we need more details to be sure.

They didn't book rebook you 24 hrs later, a computer did it automatically. No human input involved. If the flight the computer rebooks isn't suitable it's up to you to ask about alternatives, which you did, and accepted an earlier flight.

You weren't delayed so why would you claim, even if the EU regulation allows you to?

Agreed, for once the regulation allows some definition. as it is both "no more than one hour before" AND less than two hours regarding arrival.
