Faulty car

Components wear, it's not a new car. You have to prove the fault with present at point of sale. You can't do this so don't have a claim at present anyway.
Dealers aren't responsible for everything that goes wrong with a car forever more. It's a machine, expect problems to develop over time0 -
Do you know what the fault is?0

Council advice re used cars ... If your car develops a fault after more than 30 days of ownership, but within no more than six months, you can still reject it, but the goalposts are in a different position. At this point you have to give the supplying dealer one chance to fix the problem, but if they don’t do it satisfactorily you can then ask for it to be repaired, replaced or your money refundedMr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

You also have a 10 year old car, you really think you are going to get 6 years free motoring from a 10year old car? Cars break down, it's called wear and tear, this is not covered by any consumer rights.Yes, in an ideal world the car would've gone straight back to the trader. We've been told by CAB that consumers have up to 6 years to claim for faulty goods, although the sooner you claim the better.0 -
It's a 2.0 TDI, I'd say the likelihood is it does have a DPF, as these were fitted to the 140bhp version from 2007 (the 170bhp engine version has always had a DPF). Even if it doesn't have a filer fitted the 140bhp 2.0 tdi is renowned for being particularly bad and should be avoided. It's an 07 plate so shouldn't have a DPF. Whilst not brilliant short runs shouldn't kill it.0 -
Excuse my ignorance - what's a DPF?0

No chance.
Get any thoughts about returning the car/compensation/money towards the problem out of your head and move on with your life0
