Beware Admiral Hard Sell

I've just helped my mum renew her house insurance. I did save her a lot of money but in order to do so I had to suffer 15 minutes of hard sell from Admiral before I could pay for her new policy. I used a comparison site and got the policy she needed online but when we put her debit card details in the system said it couldn't take the payment and we had to ring an 0333 number instead. We queued for at least five minutes to get through. I made the call on her behalf and was bombarded with what was effective a hard sell trying to convince us that she needed all the various extras they were offering. Examples were central heating cover and some obscure insurance that meant they would repair a floor if they had to dig it up to look for a leak (they used some funny term for this that I have never heard off). They also repeated questions that I had already answered for the online quote. I got really irritated because by then I had an appointment I had to get to and was getting late. I was told that they do this with all their customers but I didn't have this when I moved to Admiral. I suspect it was because my mum is elderly. She would have found it really hard to resist the hard sell. This has left me with a very bad view of Admiral and I will not be renewing my insurance with them when it comes up. So be warned. I wish I had just put the phone down and gone elsewhere. Shame on you Admiral.

nothing personal, it's business and generally you get what you pay for. Have a look at the admiral reviews too"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

If she owns her house she definitely wants the trace and access cover (it isn't separate insurances, it's additional cover on the current policy). If she has a small leak under the floor, the insurers won't cover the cost to break into the concrete to get to the leak, or repair the leak - that cost will all be on her.
Would you rather them not double check the information you provided to them?0 -

Of all of the adds ons, this is probably the one that I would say everyone should seriously consider.
Legal cover, accidental cover etc are those thigns that depends on your circumstances. But a pipe in the wall or in the ground can cause massive amounts of damage, not only locating it but getting to it, that you can not say for sure will not happen.
Fingers crossed for your mum eh!
I do not do the hard sell with any of my clients, I explain the adds on and ask them if they want it. I would rather ask and be told no, than not ask and find the customer needs it.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
