Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Hester..... both you and I know that your ex is taking the mickey. If your daughter loves your Grandmother she will realise that she needs expert care 24 hours a day 7 days a week and 52 weeks of the year. She should stay where she is whether she likes it or not. Sorry to be blunt, but thats how it is.
The damage looking after her grandmother will do to her health and the mental and physical health of her children does not bear thinking about. I doubt that social services would be happy with the situation either!! In any case £16000 is not enough. Our local nursing home which has a dedicated wing for dementia patients charges £850 a week. The patients are kept in a secure environment, away from the rest of the care home and the ratio of staff is 2 to 1 patient. Your daughter should not feel guilty turning the idea down, its a daft idea anyway. OK rant over......
Its a bright morning, OH will be out in the garden this morning, I have the Friday clean to do.
We tried the Wiltshire FF meals last night, they were both ok and OH would be happy to have them, so I need to keep a weeks supply in the freezer against one or the other of us being in hospital, more for him really than me. You just put them in the microwave from frozen and can eat them out of the containers if you want to.
Our usual fish and chip supper tonight, yes chips, not wedges for a change, and peas.0 -
Thank goodness it's Friday.
Yesterday after work was my dinner date with my gran, which as always was lovely. She had picked some flowers from her garden and put them in a small vase on the table - how cute. I should've taken some flowers over for her, I'll buy her a bunch for next time. I said I'd bake some scones and make some jam and have her over for afternoon tea one weekend.
We didn't leave the dinner table. Sat and chatted about houses and what they used to be like when she was younger. She spoke of the coal deliveries and how the only source of heating would be from the real fire in the living room. Her first home with my late grandad was a tiny little, 4 in a block, kind of place. Managed to find it on Rightmove and showed her what it looks like now which she enjoyed. She's the apple of my eye and always has such a caring and positive outlook which I hope to emulate. What a woman.
A Tim Hortons chain has opened up in Glasgow, the first in the UK. For those who don't know it, it's kind of like Kirspy Kreme (doughnuts and coffee) which is really big in Canada. So I'm going to swing by after work, purely for work purposes, of course. Then my mum is coming up tonight for a natter too.
I'm hosting the boys tomorrow who are all coming round for the Champions League final. I think there's about 9 in total. How they'll fit, I'm not sure. I've bought in some frozen pizzas and they'll bring they're on drinks I'm sure (I hope).
Nelski - Was thinking of you yesterday. Hope it went well.
Deleted_User - Salt and vinegar? Tomato sauce?
Have a super Friday everyone.0 -

Morning all, I haven't posted in a while but have been reading along.
Hugs to our Nelski xx
HH that's outrageous of your ex to even suggest that arrangement. I hope your DD doesn't get swayed by the money - sounds a lot but not for all the upheaval and the work involved.
It's half term and I've had the week off. Have my nephew (9) for a few days and we have been to the science museum and will go to a trampoline park today. Yesterday we pottered about here with a short trip into town. He has 4 of those spinners JackieO and wanted another one which was £15! I was mean auntie and said No and funnily enough he hasn't mentioned it since, five minute wonder!
Washing is on, so will go on the line as it's bright and breezy here. We will take our pooch to the country park for a long walk, back here for lunch, then trampolining at 3pm. I have a small amount of ironing to do as well. Not sure what's for tea - possibly pizza.
Have a good day all,

That idea is not fair on grandmother, her children or your daughter.
It has the potential to endanger grandmother as one person cannot be vigilant 24 hours a day or provide all the caring needed even if they had absolutely nothing else to do.
It will take a physical and mental toll on your dd and will affect the children as well. Could you suggest that grandmother spends a week or a weekend there as a "break" as that will give everyone a good idea of what is involved and not be as much of a commitment.Someone I worked with thirty years ago had her MIL over for the weekend, they had dinner together, everything was going fine and later that evening saw her to bed in the spare room and all went to sleep. They got woken about three in the morning by a thunderous knocking on the door to find the police on the doorstep  Turned out MIL had left the house quietly and knocked on neighbour's doors saying she was being held prisoner, poisoned and starved!
An elderly relative of my husbands managed to leave a secure locked unit and go wandering so even several trained staff and double locked doors were not fool proof. It is not a case of an elderly granny sitting quietly and happily in a corner, sharing family meals and family life and just needing a little help now and again.
Youngest dd is coming over tonight so I want to get the house hoovered, bed changed and generally tidied. I found a recipe for chicken tarragon so need to get a bus to the other end of town for ingredients and will pick up a prescription while I am there.
Just about to make an omelette for a late breakfast before setting off on the bus.

Morning everyone
I haven't posted for a while...never seem to have anything interesting to say!
Had a nice week off work though its gone far too quickly. My eldest DD was home for a few days last weekend so that was really nice. We had a day out in Newcastle on Tuesday and a lovely lunch in Frankie and Bennys...and very reasonably priced too. Then she flew back to Amsterdam at half 5. Shes only there for another 6 weeks, then home for a week, Barcelona for 5 days with me and then moving back to Leeds. Shes planning on getting a job for the summer and then she has another year at uni starting in September.
Youngest DD has her first car and shes loving the freedom. I'm pleased shes happy but felt more relaxed when she was getting the bus! Shes a very good driver.....but I worry about the ones driving who might not be as sensible.
I've done loads of gardening this week and both front and back are looking really nice. I've put stones down on a small area at the back....well it seemed small until I started! I put 8 bags down but its spread too thinly so bought another 4 bags last night. Hopefully I'll get it finished later. I've a pile of ironing to finish first.
Hope everyone has a good day0 -
Specky.....Tomato sauce for OH, tartare sauce for me with salt, occasionally vinegar!! Mind you if we get fish shop chips we always have vinegar on those, nothing like eating them out of newspaper!!0

Good morning everyone, thanks to nmlc for starting the thread and hugs to anyone that needs one.
The sun is shining again so more gardening for me this afternoon. On-line shop has been delivered and put away so time for a pitstop to enjoy a cuppa. I bought some lemon & ginger tea bags just the Tesco own brand and they are lovely. The tea is nice and gingery which I like.
Hope everyone has a good day x0 -
Speky you sound like a lovely chap, who is making sure that your Granny is part of your life, something that is very valuable to you both. Often Grannies/Grandpa's and grandchildren seem to get along better than children do with their parents.
As a Granny of seven I am totally non-judgemental with my tribe, and the kids all know that they can tell me anything at all, and its goes no further unless they want it to.
My eldest grandson Danny is now in the U.S. with his wife, living and working, and I do miss him, but he messages me or Facetime's at least once a week, which is nice.
His cousin Ben is at Uni and at 21 still makes time for a chat, and when he comes home on vacation we go to the movies,( we both love the cinema) and go out to dinner just the two of us and he tells me all about his hopes and expectations .
(He is off to Canada next month for three weeks) as his girlfriend is on an internship for three months out there, another grandson will be out in the big wide world .
His younger brother Jack is doing his A.S's this year and will also be off to Uni next year, but I am a very lucky Grandma as they all keep in touch and don't see me as the old lady that I am, I think sometimes I am a sounding board for their thoughts:):)
Being a Granny is so rewarding, and so much more fun than being a Mum as you have more time, and less stress..So carry on with you date nights with your Granny ,she is a lucky lady to have such a caring grandson.
