Hi we r looking to replace our front upvc door with composite door. I found a company called valuedoors.co.uk and wanted to get some feedback if anyone has used them.
Any other recommendations for composite door. I have heard of solidoor but not sure about any others.
Also what to look out for when buying composite doors?
Thanks

Valuedoors operate on a model where contact via theeir website gets sent on to a local installer who comes round and measures up, prepares the quote etc, gets the door ordered and comes and installs it. You're going to be dependent on the work of the installer (case with all doors, of course).
My back door came from them, a basic half glass composite door. The price was competitive compared to a local recommended independent that I also got out to quote, the door is robust compared to uPVC, it's been in a couple of years and still fits the frame, opens, closes and locks smoothly. As I said, I'm sure much of that was down taken by the installers, they did spend a lot of time getting it just right.
Solidoor are more expensive than valuedoors and the doors are thicker - I guess that's why they feel more "solid"- I also talked to one of their agents when replacing my front door , and while I liked the product I didn't like the price for what it was and the agent didn't impress me very much. My front door eventually came from Hormann (again via an agent), is made of steel and is on an entirely different level - everyone that visits comments on how nice it is - but was about three times the price of a composite effort.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
I have recently had a new front Solidor. It's not been there long enough to say much but it looks good.
Rock doors are another well-known brand, but they looked more old-fashioned to me.
Also think about what sort of lock you want. I went for thumb turn so I don't need to have the key to open it from the inside, but this may depend on the style of your door.
EDIT: The most important person in this job will be your fitter. Even if they claim to be FENSA registered, I advise that you look them up on the FENSA website to make sure their registration is current.0 -

Thanks. If possible, can I ask how much did you pay and if possible 2hat range of door is it?
By any chance re you anywhere near London? If so can you recommend your installer?0 -
I don't want to go over the price but I got it via my builder who shared the discount with me.
I'm in St Albans. I would definitely not recommend the installer I used as he claimed to work for a FENSA registered company but did not. He came via the company that made the doors and window I bought, so they are sorting this out for me.
Unfortunately, even the parts of the construction industry that have a little bit of regulation are not very well regulated, and the company that made my doors was taken in by the installer (who used to be registered but let his registration lapse a couple of years ago).
My recommendation would be to look on the Which? Trusted Traders website and choose a couple of fitters from there. I would suggest you get a few quotes and then personally check the FENSA website to make sure they are registered. It will save you a lot of hassle later.
Finally, get one company or registered FENSA trader to both supply and fit. Do not attempt to supply yourself.0 -
We bought our composite door from the plastics depot in Sutton Coldfield. They do a supply only trade price and a separate price for fitting. Might be worth trying them.0

I have used Value Doors a couple of times..they fitted a rockdoor composite door a couple of years ago and had no problems with it or the company.A stress free experience from ordering to fitting0

Asking if valuedoors is OK is like asking if justeat serve up a good meal. Using a website middleman based hundreds of miles away to cream off a profit for doing diddly squat is not the way forward. There is no substitute for going local and touching, poking, and flexing what is available. Only that way will you judge what is quality and also know, with reasonable certainty, who will be fitting the door.
Your decision entirely but I would never place business with valuedoors simply because the web based concept targets those who cannot be bothered to ask, search, touch and feel. I maintain valuedoors represents a dumbing down of standards.0 -

Thanks for your thoughts. Appreciate your time. I know I can't see the produced hence this post asking for people's experience.
Have you seen their product for you to conclude they are dumbing down the standard just by being an Internet company? Not challenging what you said but interested in your opinion if you have actual seen the product.0 -

Take a look at their website and it is blatant. They do not say who manufactures the composite doors unless you specify a Rockdoor. This means the consumer has no chance of checking quality, which is what valuedoors wants! The doors could be made in a garden shed at the back of a car scrap yard and be stuck together with human spittle. This is the dumbing down, and how valuedoors can drive down standards.0 -

I fully understand your point re checking the product in person for quality. But you need to stop there. Without seeing these in person you can question the quality but cannot say standards are low. Its bit like finding a tradesman. Do all good tradesman and decent local companies have all information on their supply chain etc.... Thanks for your time anyway0
