Buying A Car From Motorpoint Advice

Remember the £99 Fee they add on as an ADMIN fee is also not compulsory, they say it covers HPI Check Number plates etc etc. Smoke and Mirrors. If you ask them to remove it they have to. Its just more hidden commission and is listed on the website in very very small print that it is optional.

Stageshoot thanks for telling me this. I will ask for this to be removed.
flashg67 - I will ask when the service was to make sure the warranty isn't void.
konark - I asked them outright if it was imported and they said no. The HPI check also said its not imported In regards to that I did ask a mechanic friend who said it being imported should make no difference.
boliston - Yeah they have already mentioned that, I wont be getting it as I plan to keep the car for a good 10 years so by that point it wont be worth much0 -
I think Konark was just being an !!!!.
As for the admin fee covering HPI check as Motorpoint claim, an HPI will cost them peanuts, they have to carry out one anyway as part of their due diligence.
I am sure it will be a good buy, don't be rushed into the purchase, inspect the car very carefully before entering into any paperwork. Be firm but polite with their sales tactics and remember they are not your friend.
Let us know how you get on.0 -
Car supermarkets exist because they buy lots of cars cheap. Normally ex rentals, end of contract hire cars. Mobility hand backs. Some are good some are not. Some are grey imports some are not.
For what it is worth I would go to your local Toyota Dealership and see what they can do first. You may surprised and the price should be close.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
loskie - Thank you for your advice. I will keep you updated.
BJV - I did ry my local Ron Brooks and for he same car they had a price of £12k. The HPI check said its worth about £10k. I find Toyota dealers inflate their prices a fair bit. Cant imagine they would take £3k off the price..0 -
We nearly bought a car from Motorpoint not long back and the only thing I can say is don't fall for their extra warranty, and GAP insurance. They wanted £329 for a further year added to the warranty (you'll already have 4 years so this really isn't needed, no matter how they try and sell it), and they also wanted £329 for GAP insurance which we managed to find online for £120.0

Can I say Ron Brooks Toyota are great for servicing.
Another thing on the prices: Make sure you're not mixing up the 1.0 litre with the 1.3 litre. That could account for large price differences .I've had 4 Yarises and the 1.0 litre is quite under powered.Nice to save.0 -
So update time.
The_Biff - I double checked and its the 1.3 petrol.
I went to view the car yesterday and took it for a test drive.
Everything went great. There were a few things I pointed out to them, one was that it looked like there had been a scratch on the window shield and it had been filled in (badly). They did buff this out for me. There were a few scuffs on some of the external trim (plastic), nothing major and I know I can get rid of them. Other than that the car ran great and was pretty much immaculate.
I plan on picking it up next Saturday while I get a)my loan sorted b) tell my insurance to switch c) gap insurance.
I checked the warranty was a full Toyota warranty and it is. I've also emailed to the chassis number so I can add that to the HPI check it did to get more information
In regards to gap insurance, any advice on the best companies to use?0 -
I have bought 7 cars for me and family, from Motorpoint. Never a problem, do 40000 miles a year. Instead of wasting time asking questions go and see them, ask them the questions. They are honest and straight to deal with, if you don't want the car don't buy it. Do the sums, good cars, good value, good people. Why hesitate, all cars covered by manufacturers warrant. Ask about imported cars and they have nothing to hide. Hope this helps0
