Buying A Car From Motorpoint Advice
Hi everyone.
I'm looking to buy a new car (not brand new) just new for me.
It's a 2016 Yaris Design at £8,799. Now this price is really good as I cant find the same car for that price anywhere else.
My only question is are Motorpoint a good place to buy from?
I've read online I should ask if its an import, now if its an import is this a bad thing and will it cause me problems if I have an import.
As for warranty it says it has 4 years left and that in line with Toyotas 5 year warranty. Will it be the same warranty you get if I bought a Toyota from else where?
Now my Yaris currently has part of the exhaust missing and its MOT is due in like a week. Motorpoint have said they will give me £1600 if it has a valid MOT (they need at least 3 months) and I fix the exhaust. Now to do that it'll cost me £300 for a MOT and a new exhaust to be fitted. (I've got a price from my local garage). Which in real terms means Ill be getting £1300 for my car. Now I've ran around and wont get anywhere near that with an MOT thats about to go out of date and the mid section of my exhaust missing.
The plan is to put a £300 deposit down on the Yaris (Which is fully refundable if I dont want the car and dont go through with the purchase). But it means no one else can view the car while I have he deposit down. If' im happy with it ill get my car fixed and then they'll take £1600 off the price of the car so I'll have £7200 left.
I plan to pay for it with a personal loan over 5 years, as the interest is lower and by the end of it ill own the car and itll be 6 years old. I personally plan to keep the car until its at least 10 years old like my current Yaris.

IIRC years ago a few car supermarkets did some good deals on imported cars built for Europe but with UK spec, the disadvantage was a shorter warranty and reduced residuals. I don't think this still happens, in any case easiest way to put your mind at ease is check with Motorpoint.0

Get the reg and call a Toyota dealer to see if it's on their system as a UK spec vehicle.0

Many years ago I had a Fiesta from Motorpoint which had been registered in Jersey. Still had a full Ford warranty and was very happy with the car and the service from Motorpoint.0

So I've rang Motorpoint and its a UK model, not imported. Full 4 years left on the Toyota warranty and thy confirmed if I took it to a toyota garage it would be covered. I got the veg as well and did a HPI check and it all came up clear.
Im going to ring toyota up as well to get triple confirmation0 -
my oh recently used them - the main thing is to avoid the extras they will push very hard - extra warranty etc etc - just pay the base price0

Oh I plan to. They want me to have their gap insurance. Ill get my own a lot cheaper. Also want me to get a coating on the interior which is to stop stains from spills. I wont get that either.
I just want the car. I'm paying it with a personal loan as its cheaper than finance.
I rang my local toyota dealer who confirmed that the warranty is valid as long as the service history is up to date which it should be as its only a year old0 -

They literally "butter you up" as the first thing you get offered is a bacon butty I seem to remember they also offer you a coating on the outside which keeps the car "like new" - I just said I'm not worried about how new it looks in 3 years time as long as it still gets me from a to b :cool:0 -
I was happy with my Motorpoint experience, if you don't mind the sales pitch on the extras (all dealer seem to do this though IME).
If it is 1 year old, do check if it has had a service - much more than a month late and you could void the warranty0
