Amazon is always first stop unless you have any good secondhand book shops nearby. For course books I always used to buy from students who had just finished the course I was starting although it's a little late for this year-the savvy savers get in at the end of the academic year.

Amazon often does not combine the postage if you buy lots of second hand books from the same seller, by far the best is Abebooks.

  • I have found both Amazon and Abebooks pretty good. Compare the final prices of Amazon Marketplace and Amazon though as if you are buying a few it is cheaper to get them from Amazon rather than the Marketplace as you will qualify for free delivery.

  • If you're at uni or college, often they sell off books from the library at the start of the year to make space for new stock. And students who have finished quite often advertise on noticeboards any books that they've got to sell.

I got like 300 emails in 4-5 days from 2nd year students trying to sell their books, usually at half price which is good but everyone seems to be falling for the hype and buying books paying upto £45!!! Surely, there are places where you can get hold of books for dirt cheap, something like £10?

We need this years nwe edition books so not worth responding to those emails!

    Any ideas?
  • facebook has a new book section in its marketplace area...you get to see books for sale from people in your own network & can search using the ISBN.
