I have just switched to Green Star Energy from SSE. I have been given a switch date. I have smart meters in my house SSE fitted last year. Green star asked me to submit meter reading. When I called green Star they weren't aware of my smart meters even though i put it down on submission form. You do not have a contact number. Now I have to join this forum and write down what you have done So much for for EASY SWITCH MASTER. WELL DONE MARTIN
:money::T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T
Now please tell me :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
How am i going to submit meter readings while i have smart meters? And Why did you let me switch to a energy company doesn't have a smart meter support?
Maybe you answer is making money for yourself NOT REALLY THINKING OF THE PUBLIC

I have a smart meter, like many it is unsupported when you switch.
However the box still reports and you'll still have an option somewhere to see the current meter reads, which you then call or e-mail Green Star with. Or of course, look at the meters themselves, they still have read-outs for manual reporting, they just have the added benefit of transmitting this data via Wi-Fi to their reporting boxes.
Also, cross-compatibility with Smart meters is an industry wide problem, not just Green Star. If you have a Gen 1 meter, it will not work with any other provider and becomes a dumb meter again.
If you're not happy, use your cooling off period to cancel and stay with SSE. Remember, if you switch to ANYONE ELSE with a gen 1 meter, it will stop working.

Go and press the buttons on the meter and read them just like you used to before you did a silly thing and had smart meters installed. Smart meters are not transferable between suppliers as mentioned many times on these forums. You have probably saved money by switching which is what it is all about.0

Need what sorted?
Gen 1 Smart meters can not at this time work when you change providers.
You wont get the Smart meter working with anyone but SSE. If the auto reporting meter is important to you, then you must cancel using your cooling off rights. If not, you'll go back to manual reporting like everyone else.
There is no other remedy to this.
If you actually read the e-mail that contained the link for the MSE Switch, it has a section on Smart Meters.
It specifically tells you that you'll lose the smart meter functionality of automatic reporting. If you didn't read that, that's your fault, not MSE, or Martin Lewis. it's all there in B&W and I still have the e-mail detailing this, so should you.

The link is at the bottom of the site.
If you can't be bothered to read the site to find it, let alone the FAQs that you were sent for the Switch I don't know what to tell you.
As you didn't look:

Do smart meters affect switching?
At the moment, smart meters aren't always compatible with different providers, which means if you switch to another supplier, your smart meter could lose some of its ‘smart’ functionality. However, all this means is that you'd have to go back to manually providing meter readings to your new supplier. Other ‘smart’ functions, such as in-home display of energy use, should still work.
The Government is planning to make all smart meters compatible between different providers by 2020, but currently this isn’t possible.
Again, they did tell you this was going to happen.
If you're not happy, use your rights to cancel. It's that easy.

Hi ConArtistWatch,
Did you do the switch through Cheap Energy Club? If so, we do mention on the switch application form under Do you have a smart meter? that at the moment smart meters aren't compatible with other suppliers.
I'm afraid this means that if you switch to another supplier, your smart meter would lose some of its ‘smart’ functionality. This means is that you'd have to go back to manually providing meter readings to your new supplier. Other ‘smart’ functions, such as in-home display of energy use, should still work.
Thanks,
