Thomas cook

Anyone else received a phone call from Thomas Cook yesterday telling them their flight has been cancelled? We booked last September to go to fuerterventura this August! We wanted specific dates, to cover hubbies birthday and a specific room at our chosen apartments so as you do we booked early. Perfect all sorted and paid for. Booked train to airport, booked airport hotel, book car hire to meet us at the airport, marvalous! Till yesterday when they rang to say flight cancelled and the best they can do for us is now 10days not, 14, not if we wanted to keep same apartments. Got a bit of a refund because the holiday is shorter and £40 each compensation, wow!! I have had to change hotel booking, good old Radison blue did it for free! Car hire changed for free by PlusCar, brill. No free changes by Trainline, had to just re book and pay the extra, boo! It 3 hours of my time also gone! Mmmfff, on a real downer about our holiday now! I have now looked at Thomas cook website and all the Tuesday flights to fuerterventura have disappeared so many people will be in our shoes, await your call!!! So the moral of this tale is does it pay to book early to get what you really want?

First post, thanks for reading

Sorry to put a further disappointment on your holiday, but you paid more than you needed to by using trainline. In future book train tickets through a train operator to avoid booking and card fees.

That's really bad luck and I feel very sorry for you and all of the resulting changes to other booked arrangements and travel plans that you have had to make.

Hope you can put it behind you and enjoy the holiday in August.

European law EU261/2004 may have entitled you to re-routing. And that doesn't necessarily mean on the same airline. So you could have pushed for a flight on the original day, but on another airline.

Thomas Cook would have argued and refuted this. You may even have had to fork out for it yourself and taken them to small claims court, but I'm sure a very similar circumstance has been won and detailed on these forums on the past.
