Cash on Collection vs Paypal - which better for seller?

Item on auction (no option for best offer), has a week left to go. A few watchers.

A potential buyer asks if I would accept an offer bc they need the item quickly.

Am considering ending the auction and accepting their offer.

What I want to know is, what are the pros/cons for me as a seller if I close the auction and accept the offer?

I want to avoid hassle/getting scammed.

Is it safer to accept payment via Paypal and post it OR to deliver the item myself and take cash?

The offer is worth <30GBP.

Would I have to pay any fees if it's cash on collection? How do I change it to this?

Travelling there wouldn't cost me any money, but it would cost my time & effort and if the person changes their mind that would be time wasted. (Although I could run some errands in that part of town if necessary I suppose).

Relisting would be annoying, but wouldn't be terribly upset because I know the item will easily sell (I just don't know if it would be a lot more than the <30 offer or not).

I am worried about getting scammed by a buyer e.g. they claim item was not received, not as described etc. Am I safer from these issues if it's done in person?

I have given a very detailed and illustrated description of the item and been very clear about it's condition.

If I do cash on collection and the person later decides they don't like the item, can they still leave negative feedback? (I also want to avoid receiving unfair negative feedback in case the buyer is dodgy)

There is also the possibility that the item gets lots of bids and I could get a better price at auction.

If cash on collection is less risky for me, I could accept the offer though.

TLDR: Take cash in person or stick with Paypal & post?

If you end the item early and take cash, you will find ebay taking a very hard look at your account...

End the listing and relist as BIN at whatever price you are happy to accept.

Thank you, that's what I wanted to know - is it a faux pas from Ebay's POV if I close it.

How do fees work if the buyer pays paypal but I deliver myself. No tracking/proof of postage ?

That is not entirely correct, if the current bid is the amount you want to take there is a facility to end auction early and sell to the highest bidder, it all goes properly through ebay.

OP, cash on collection or delivery is better for you but never accept paypal and then deliver- have a look at the sticky thread about the issues of collection only items.

Ebay take their fees from the sale price plus postage, so to only pay FVFs on the item amount after you have delivered the item send an invoice but be careful to remove the postage, then immediately mark it paid and despatched.

Ok so if I do cash on collection, how can I prove delivery in case the buyer tries to mess me around?

Are there risks to the seller e.g. can the buyer claim to have not received the item or that it wasn't as described? (wouldn't make a lot of sense if they see it and accept it in person, but you never know with ebay...)

If I accept cash on collection, can the buyer later try to scam me or leave negative feedback?

Or is it fairly safe? (low value items)

    Thanks
Small amount so not (too) worried about this

Can they try to open some kind of case against me via Ebay later?

The buyer can't claim not received as they have no buyer protection for that on eBay if they use cash. They can try a SNAD claim but with cash this is almost impossible for them tomavhieve anything with eBay.

They remain able to leave feedback regardless of how they pay.

Incidentally, I have merged the two threads.
