Faulty Beko Washing Machine

Hi everyone
Our Beko washing machine started leaking today. We bought it in October 2016 (but didn't start using it until after our extension was finished in December). I have just dug out the paperwork and we don't have any proof of purchase. We've trawled through both our email accounts and bank accounts and can't find any trace of the purchase. We think this is because my Father in law bought it for us. It's difficult to remember as my FIL died suddenly in November. We are pretty sure it was him who bought it but we we don't have proof of purchase and can't find any because all his accounts have been closed down now.
Do you think there's any way Beko will still honour the 12 month guarantee?
Many thanks for any advice.

Best bet may be to connect Beko directly and see what they have to say.
Do you know where your FIL got it from and see if they can determine a purchase dateIITYYHTBMAD0 -
I tried to call them but they're closed for the BH.
I think he got it from AO.com. I've tried calling them too, but they just redirected my call to Beko because of the options I chose. I didn't actually get to speak to a human.
I'll call Beko in the morning again, just wondered if anyone had any advice in the meantime.
Thanks for your reply0 -
His accounts have been closed down, but isn't the paperwork still available? If he bought it from ao.com them it must be via a debit or credit card, so can you not access his credit card statements or bank statements?
Did you not register with Beko for the warranty? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
We only have online statements and, as it has been converted to a single account in my MiL's name (she has dementia so can no longer access her account), the transaction history only dates back to when my husband got power of attorney after my FiL's death. No other paperwork as it was ordered online and we don't have access to the email account. His dad died very suddenly so things weren't really sorted out. We forgot to register the warranty (due to my FiL passing away, my own father being diagnosed with terminal cancer, and also our house being upside down when our extension was in the final stages - all within a couple of weeks of each other) but I've read on Beko's website that you still need proof of purchase regardless of whether or not you've registered it or not.
From past experience, registering a product for a warranty is more about the manufacturer trying to sell you extended warranty products than anything else! I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong though.0 -
I really don't think there is anything any one here can do.
Of course people can say what they think Beko will do or say, but in the end you'll have to ring them and find out.
Speak to AO again and see if they can help by providing proof of purchase.
Good luck.0 -
Depending on the model they may not require proof of purchase. If it is a model that they have been producing for less than a year then they'll know it is still under 12 months. Same if they log serial numbers and yours was produced less than a year ago.
The times these things usually have issues is that between manufacture, shipping to retailer, storage and shipping to the customer can be several months so it may have been manufactured over a year ago even if your FIL didn't buy it that long ago. That is when they usually ask for proof of purchase to show that it has been in use for less than 12 months.0 -
Thank you. That's really useful information. I'm going to call them shortly so I'll find out what they say.0

The contract, if you can prove it is with the retailer, via your consumer rights, not the same thing as a warranty, not only that but it isn't even with you it is with your FIL which gives you no rights at this point at all.
However if you have POA it may change things but I don't know for sure if the company have to deal with you as if you were your FIL.
Your story is a bit weird though as you only think your FIL bought it, seems a bit strange to me not really knowing where you got the machine. Could it be you did indeed get it from Gumtree or the likes and are curious if you have any rights?0
