Stupid question (?) - how do you get a long carpet roll into a flat?

I realise this is probably a stupid question, as obviously most houses and flats do have carpets fitted, so there must be an obvious solution, but thinking about the practicalities before I buy, how on earth do you get a 5 metre roll of carpet round tight corners etc? My flat is 5th floor, there is a lift but obviously a 5m roll of carpet isn't going to fit in there, but I can't even begin to imagine how a roll of that length can possibly be manoeuvred up five flights of stairs. I assume they do roll it that way - or do they roll it by the other dimension, the one that you can choose more specifically? (That sounds more practical, but would presumably be a pain for the shop, as it must come off the roll in the warehouse rolled up by its 5m / 4m length surely). How much 'give' does a large roll of carpet have? Will it bend enough to go round awkward corners etc?
I have a feeling the answers will be obvious and I'll feel like an idiot in 30 mins time, but if so then at least I might give somebody a good laugh.

Provided the supplier delivers it "off the roll" you should be able to roll it on the shortest length and then bend it in half to negotiate tight bends. Five metres seems an awful lot of carpet for a small flat.0

I can only give experience from a 3 storey town house but a rope, a couple of strong blokes and some tenacity got plenty of things in though the windows a damn sight easier than if we'd tried to use the stairs.
Alternatively do you have a central stairwell that could be even easier0 -
They bend.0

Ask for the carpet to be delivered folded rather than rolled.0

A long roll of carpet will naturally bend or flex in the middle. It can be twisted or bent around corners.0

Just get the carpet company to come out an measure up. They will deal with this sort of thing a lot. If you have an old carpet you might want to make sure the price includes disposal of the old carpet.0

If it is narrow the carpet can be rolled up the other way, making it perhaps only 1m long.0 -
The more loosely you roll it the easier the roll will bend.0
