getting marriage certificate name changed?

In some countries in europe it is not customary for the wife to take the husbands name when they marry.
If you marry in one of these countries, how do you legally adopt your husbands name, when you return to the uk?

You don't need to, the marriage certificate (certainly in this country, unless it's changed recently) doesn't show whether the wife has taken the husband's name or not, it just shows both with their original surnames.
All you need to do is change your name and produce your certificate to any institution in the UK as evidence.0 -
I can't see that it is any different. The UK marriage certificate doesn't say anything about married name - it's just a legal document that shows 2 people got married.
I haven't changed my name. But I can be known as anything I like (as can anyone). If I wanted to take my husband's name I could. Some businesses might ask to see the marriage certificate, which gives me the entitlement to use the name without going through deed poll. I can't see it mattering if the certificate was from another country, as long as the marriage was considered legal.0 -
Surely in uk you sign the certificate with your married name.0

No, you sign with your (maiden) name. It shows the 2 people that got married!
Not everyone here changes their name, anyway!0 -
so if i want to apply for a new passport in my married name, i just send the marriage certificate and inform them i wish to be known by my husbands family name.0

I think that's right. I haven't changed my name at all, so haven't done it myself. The Passport Office's website should tell you what you need to do.0

Correct. When you fill in a passport application form they will want to see the original marriage certificate and birth certificate. Shouldn't be a problem.0 -
Bit different, but only slightly.
I'm thinking of getting married next year. What do we have to do regards our house. I.e. at the moment we own it in my maiden name and his name. Do I have to change anything when we get married?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

No. You can use your maiden name & married name for separate things - it is still you.

Hi, its up to you. You can either stay as you are with your maiden name or change it to your married name. If you want to change it, all the bank/mortgage people need is your marriage certificate. Think you'll have to fill in a form with your old signature and new signature. This will aslo apply if you want to change your name on bank accounts, savings, credit cards etc. Its quite easy to do. Just keep a record of which you've changed and which you haven't as its gets confusing !!0
