alan,
Have you tried doing a search on Google for any of the details (including their phone number) you have for the person who bought your account?
If they have done this sort of thing before you might get lucky and find proof of this and if so, a serial fraudster might get more interest from the authorities than someone who just did it as a one off.0 -
Why contact action fraud or the police?
Would you admit that you broke the T&C's set out by eBay ?
Id say he doesnt live at the address anymore nor will he use the phone number anymore.
Whilst the 'sale of the account' may have felt genuine to the OP, it's not the 'sale' per se that is the issue, it is someone trading on that account and any dodgy dealings being done on it. Legally, the OP is still the account holder. It is certainly something that needs to be passed to AF (not the Police).0 -

This is the issue and I hope OP realises why we are concerned. The account remained his despite the sale, so he needs to get legal advice about his liability.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Would ebay really give you the contact details if they did not match your own??
Ebay maybe thinking you just changed the details to commit fraud and then claim it wasnt you?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I don't see why not. Legally the account still belongs to the OP, despite the address/name/dob/shoe size on the account. The initial registration of that account will be in the OP's name.0 -

The fact that ebay happily shared the users details suggests they see this as still belonging to the OP, which is as we suggested. It isn't a breach of data protection to share information with the person whose account it is.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks all for your comments, concerns and your advice. I have contacted Fraud Action and opened a case.
Now, the problem is that the address I have from the fraud person does not exist, neither the phone number is working.
It seems the information within eBay is not useful, but must PayPal have his real name, address, phone number and copies of his identities, bank accounts.
Paypal refused to share those details with me. see below email from PayPal:

My only suggestion still is to get proper legal advice.
Even if you can get the scammers details they are not going to help you. It is likely that the ID and address etc were dodgy anyway- as otherwise paypal would be chasing them and not you, the fact that they have gone back to a time when you still had the account rather suggests that they have had no luck at all with the current details. The action fraud people collate information and try and stop it happening, they won't protect you from paypal as you breached the rules and could never have given up ownership of the account.
It is rare for paypal to go all the way to court, but they do use debt collectors and that will be their next step, and there is a chance they will file on your current address. You can get basic advice over on the debt free boards, it would be particularly useful to make yourself and your family aware of the powers that a bailiff has so that you know how to prevent them from entering and removing goods. However debt collectors are not always nice people and certain ones that paypal have used in the past have been fined for some of their extreme tactics.
I assume that you have warned anyone in your household to stop using ebay and paypal? Otherwise any funds they have can be taken if they are deemed to be associated with you- don't give paypal access to any more money until this is sorted legally.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thank you very much, Soolin. PayPal won't allow me to remove my debit cards. although they have opened a case, they still have not taken the £250 credit that I have with them.
I am thinking of getting a legal adviser. do you know any firm that is good and prices reasonable?0
