Something possibly snapped on car?

I own a Peugeot 206. I've googled extensively but I guess not actually knowing what is what makes it pretty hard to diagnose myself so I'm wondering if anyone can help? I know I need to get it into the garage but hoping somebody can give me an idea of what it might be?

Today, I was driving and I hit a pothole. It was a 60mph limit but I'd slowed to about 30mph because I was looking for a turning and wasn't sure where I was. However, I had also dropped my partner off at a music festival where the route to the drop off point was basically a test for your suspension. Obviously, I took that slowly.

Anyway, I've not noticed anything different about the way it's driving but..

Underneath the car, something near-ish to my driver's side front wheel looks partially snapped. It looks slightly like a narrow pipe of some sort but nothing is leaking.

Any suggestions?

I recently had my exhaust replaced so if it's anything to do with that I will be slightly peeved!

It will probably be the coil spring that has broken. It is pretty common.

Thank you - do you know if it's expensive to have fixed? My garage are very reasonable but I'm hoping to buy a new (well, new to me) car in the next couple of months so if it's not a relatively cheap repair, I'd be tempted to get rid of her a bit earlier than planned.

Just googled coil spring.. The thing that's partially snapped doesn't look very springy.

They should really change both front springs as your handling could be affected.

Hmm, just looked on honestjohn website

    http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/peugeot/206-1998/?section=good

    And it has another possibility

"Reports of engine mountings repeatedly failing on 1.4s. "

    Is yours the 1.4?

Thanks for that advice Nickcc - if it does turn out to be that, I will ask them to do both.

    It's a 1.1 litre and it's 55 plate.

I think the car's at the point where it's past it to be honest but I just need it to work for the next 5 weeks and then I can cope without a car until I start my new job in September!

Does it look like this, https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=206+coil+spring&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwix5rj03JDUAhWlCcAKHds7AJsQ_AUICygC&biw=1280&bih=672

    Visible above the front wheel.

Look and feel to check if anything is rubbing against the tyre. Compare it to the other side. Check the tread area and inner sidewall for damage.

If the spring has broken it can ruin your tyre so check properly before driving it.

Norman Castle - it's not above my wheel. It's more part of the car's undercarriage.

Custardy - Possibly? It's hard to tell with the angle he's working at.

I will try to take a photo tomorrow. I'm already in pyjamas now.

Think my New Year's resolution needs to be to learn more about cars!

If its low down, then likely a drop link.
Relatively cheap as they are generally the first part to go.

    Does image make more sense?

It does slightly, thank you! The lowest part of that image (so the bit under the thing with white writing on it) looks like it could be it?
