Also will the person fitting the meter need to alter any of the house electrics by for instance installing another circut to handle the off peak times?
Yes this is a very OLD thread.
Why did you agree to change something (the meter) when you had no idea what you were letting yourself into (the new tariff detail)?
But yes, your supplier will be able to confirm the details of the tariff you agreed to.
The energy supplier will only change the meter. Any other electrical work required on the property side of the meter will be your responsibility.0 -

Hello SimonMorgan and welcome to the Forums.
As above, prices are regional and if you let me have your details I'll be happy to tell you our unit prices for Economy 10 meters. Please drop an email to the address in my Profile with your account number, address and, for security, date of birth.
Look forward to hearing from you SimonMorgan.

My neighbours (both pensioners) have Economy 10 and pay a whopping £169pm for their electricity.
There are only the 2 of them, they live quite frugally and don't use a lot of gadgets.
They have been told that they have no choice but to stick with their current system as the upheaval of putting a whole new CH system in would be too much for them. I'm pretty sure they are with SSE.
Is the issue just that they have storage heaters? In which case is there anything that they can do? According to them, every time their bills go up, the supplier just tells them they have no choice because of the old system they have. They are owner/occupiers btw.
Any advice would be appreciated.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

So it's just the wiring that would need to change and the meter?
Therefore they would end up with economy 7 and be able to choose from a bigger pool of suppliers?Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Electricity companies have always been very coy about acknowledging or revealing economy 10 tariffs, the only way to find whether a company offers this is to call them directly - you will not find tariffs on comparison sites or the companies' own websites. It appears that fewer companies are offering this - Eon have recently ceased to do so. The economy 10 tariffs I have found in recent times are terribly expensive and not worth having. However, if, like me, you have an economy 10 meter already installed, many companies will quote for a dual rate meter, they don't specify whether it is economy 7 or 10. If you were less than honest you could also apply for an economy 7 tariff, although smart metering may affect this.Reading through some of the posts on this thread, I would say that you need to understand what a KWH is and how much electicity each of your appliances uses (although the bulk is on heating and hot water if you are not on gas). Only by knowing the rates and doing the arithmetic can you manage your costs.

This is a two-rate tariff with lower unit rates for all electricity used during the off-peak hours. These are the newer two-rate Economy 10 meters and the off-peak hours are active for 10 hours in each 24 hours. This is spilt into three periods during the afternoon, in the evening and at night. The actual off-peak times and prices vary depending on the region.Customers with Economy 10 meters can also have any of the other tariffs as listed on our website provided they agree to the one rate unrestricted version. Economy 7 prices aren't offered against Economy 10 meters. You're right, customers with Economy 10 meters need to talk to us for both prices and to switch tariff. This can't be done online. Thanks georgetherunner.Malc
