My daughter is working away for the summer and has no access to wi-fi. We're looking at a portable hotspot arrangement. My son has a slightly older EE Osprey box she could use and a data sim would be £23 per month on a rolling 30 day contract, for 16GB. Usage would be surfing, some gaming and netflix, which would be the killer for data in streaming video.

Any other recommendations? Although it fits the bill £23 a month seems quite a lot to me.

Whether £23 is a lot or not, the watching of films etc is what runs away with the bandwidth. I know, as I have a rolling 30 day contract with 3 for when I'm on my regular business trips away from home.

£23 for 16GB of data is a lot. Have you considered a Three "Advanced" SIM, which includes both calls and tethering? That assumes you already have a suitable phone. Three also have a 20GB data only SIM for £23/month on a 30 day rolling contract.

There are a lot of options for Three SIMs, but for comparison a £26/month (12 month contract) SIM comes with 30 GB of data and unlimited calls. You can set a zero overspend cap with Three, no bill shock.

I too have the original EE Osprey. Just get it unlocked only a £1 or 2 on Ebay. Then she can use any suitable SIM card subject to network coverage.
