Is there anything concrete about this yet, or is it pending the election?

All I've been able to discover on Google is what "might" happen.

There can't be details.... they're all saying what they might look at IF they win.... so they'd sort out details after that.

My take on it is: don't bother to even look, it's just a nonsense word that won't actually benefit most people at all ... and it's a mis-used term by the industry to con you into thinking you've "got something for nothing" when, in fact, it's few people who would actually gain something from it that they'd not be able to get if it didn't exist.

Many diesel drivers have older cars as we're poor.... so the only scheme we'd be interested in is a fair price for our car in exchange for hard cash so we can go out and buy a petrol 10-year old car. That won't ever happen.

I like my diesel and I won't be changing back to petrol until a time they phased out diesel like they did back when they got rid of leaded and 4-star etc. Even then I'd probably go for an LPG conversion.

Except that all the cars that ran on leaded petrol run on unleaded.

Diesels can't be converted to run on LPG. That's petrols. Diesels can run on a mix, but it's very, very niche.

I think he meant he'd swap his diesel for an LPG converted petrol, but that may be the way I read it.

    I may be wrong!

As a side note, I did take an LPGA approved installer course a few years ago, and we covered the topic of diesels.

As a trial, I stuck a 'normal' LPG venture into the intake of an old Peugeot 2.5D minibus and connected it to a Calor bottle. Maybe not gas-safe, but it was interesting to see what happened.

It worked remarkably well, but one had to control the amount of gas using the valve on the bottle. It made the thing far better at getting up hills without changing down. I've always fancied doing a 'proper' diesel conversion to see what it's like, but never got round to it.

Yes I know that. I would convert a petrol car to LPG obviously.

Not strictly true, engines need hardened valve seats and additives only part way avert the valve seat erosion.

A very, very small number of really rather old engines actually have problems. Everything made in the last third of a century is just fine, together with almost everything before then, especially given likely modern patterns of use.

Not that I want to scrap my diesel, but I'll bet that any scrappage scheme that whatever "ministry of silly ideas" in charge eventually manages to come up with, won't apply to me in any way shape or form.
