TSB Switching Offer - New Customer?

Hi - this offer just caught my eye & I don't know if I'd qualify -

Do you have to be a brand new customer, ie never had an a/c before? I've had a TSB Classic Plus a/c in the past but don't currently bank with TSB. I've never received an incentive to join TSB. I meet all the other criteria as per the T&Cs. There's nothing there to specify you have to be brand new.

I ask as it is stated in the offer listing but not mentioned anywhere else. Just called TSB to ask & they suggested I ask MSE (as they see it as your product) hence this post.

Many thanks in advance - Sharon.

The Ts & Cs take precedence over any generic marketing blurb, so when the MSE article refers to 'new customers' I believe that they're referring to the fact that the offer isn't open to those who currently have a Classic Plus, rather than disqualifying anyone who's had one before.

Hi eskbanker - Thanks, that was my reading as well. I've previously seen other offers for TSB on the site which stated explicitly that you must never have held an a/c before but this one doesn't.

    I understand the confusion.

When I switched in February the t's & c's on the TSB website stated
"You are not eligible for this offer if you have previously received an incentive or benefit for switching to TSB Bank plc using the Current Account Switch Service".

This is the same condition that MSE is showing on it's web pages and the click through TSB page for the current offer. However, this does not agree with the t's & c's on the TSB website which says "You must not have had a Classic Plus account with TSB before 1 March 2017".

    They can't both be right!

The 1 March condition is for the cashback. The condition for switching bonus is You are not eligible for this offer if you have previously received an incentive or benefit for switching to TSB Bank plc using the Current Account Switch Service

Yes, there are two completely separate TSB offers available just now:

MSE-specific (i.e. not available directly from TSB website) £130 for switching: http://www.tsb.co.uk/cashback-money-supermarket-termsandconditions.pdf

£5 x 2 monthly cashback (available directly via TSB): http://www.tsb.co.uk/classic-plus-cashback-terms-conditions.pdf

The Ts & Cs on eligibility differ so read carefully before applying for either!

Oh no, not another one. Nationwide are bad enough, as they seem to lack universal interpretation of their T&Cs.

    Absolutely correct!

I had not realised that there were 2 sets of Ts & Cs with different eligibility criteria.

    I'm not sure that's true.

The only unlimited restriction that I'm aware of is the first direct switch incentive.

I've heard of people who switched in the early nineties and were then declined for a switch incentive in the kast couple of years, they seem to be the elephants of the banking world.
  • Hi all,

I just wanted to report back. I did try this & as hoped, I did get the switch fee & monthly interest. As someone who previously did have an account, I won't get the cashback but still a good result.

    Thanks, Sharon.

    Sounds good.

I did the same thing at the start of the year and got the incentive as I hadn't received it before.

I did get the cashback on the new account which runs out in a month or two.
