hi all
i am on sim only with EE and have a samsung s5. it works ok but is a bit laggy and i am looking to replace it and give it to my partner to use.

i have looked at the new moto G5 and am wondering if this is an improvement on what i have? my main concerns are my s5's laggy response when selecting screen icons (launch email or various apps), i am happy with my screen quality but do not want to downgrade what i have and battery life is poor on the s5. i invariably have to charge it by mid afternoon after general use and web surfing (not tv or video watching). i have tried a new battery but hardly makes any difference. i would also appreciate 32gb of internal memory.

max budget around £200.
many thanks.

thanks. i hadn't heard of that one!! i will look it up.
have you actually got that phone and are pleased with it compared to a well branded (but ageing) handset?
  • I have had this phone for a few months, came from an LG G2, updated to Nougat using the official RestoftheWorld ROM.
It does everything I need it to do, the battery life is incredible (on 34% with 11hr 30m screen on time and 1day 18hr total time off charger)
Go into a 3 Store and have a look

not sure if they have the Moto but one of the other Carrier Stores should have that one to compare.

Both the G5 and P2 are excellent budget choices. They are by and large very similar phones, although it is worth considering the much larger battery capacity of the P2 - 5100 mAh versus 3000 mAh in the G5. The phones both use 8-core ARM-Cortex A53 based processors but the G5's processor is clocked at 1400 MHz, while the P2 is clocked at a higher 2000 MHz and has a slightly better graphics processor, Adreno 506 versus the G5's 505. The result should be better performance on the P2. While there are other differences, these are probably the most significant in terms of hardware. On the software side of things, the P2 is still officially running Android 6.0 while the G5 runs the most recent version of Android - 7.0.

Ultimately, you'll probably find the experience very similar across the two devices - so if battery life is your thing, go for the P2 but if you'd rather have the latest software, go for the G5. You're unlikely to regret buying either at c. £200 and c. £150 respectively.

    All the best,

The 3 version still has MM but the latest ROM for RestoftheWorld is Nougat as I stated.
Simple guide for UK users to install the ROM

3 are very close to releasing their version of Nougat.

I have just bought a Wileyfox Swift 2 plus (£150 from amazon). It has 3Gb ram and 32Gb int memory. It is also running Nougat as standard.

I have found it to be a noticeable upgrade to my original version MotoG. It is quick and the battery life seems good, it is probably worth a look.

    thanks rubble2.
i will look into this handset also.
there seems to be many decent handsets now without breaking the bank on apple or samsung's premium phones.

If you search for Wileyfox Swift 2 Plus on Amazon, the handset comes up at £180.96 but (strangely) if you click on the link underneath the main listing for 'Wileyfox Swift 2 Plus Bundle) then you get the handset, a cover and a screen replacement offer for £149.95.

I agree but the Moto G5 has a better camera and a removable battery compared to the P2's larger battery. Both made by Lenovo.
