O/S Daily Wednesday 24 May 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Blue sky and sunshine here, was very warm during the night and already warm. I have washing ready to go out on the line, also I'll water the greenhouse and plants first thing.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, tonight I'm not sure as haven't planned very well, but have loads to do today - and that includes some shopping, so I'll organise dinner then.

Work yesterday was steady but I had some difficult cases and 1 particular one that is a real worry, I'm hoping some of what I did helped. I have a dentist appointment this afternoon, absolutely hate the dentist, so it'll be a good job to get it out of the way, then I'm on days' off until next Tuesday.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone,

(hugs) to those that need one, and a special one for Nelski. and her family.

Special thoughts go out to all those who have been affected by the atrocities in Manchester and their friends and families. It is such a sad time.

So much on my mind at the moment that I woke up at 5.00am,and haven’t been able to get back to sleep.

I had a look at trolleys in three shops yesterday and want to look in a couple more that sell them. At the moment I am veering towards a four wheel one rather than a two wheel one. Either way, I’m sure that it will take me a while to get used to using one. I just hope that I don’t start knocking into other people with it.

I’m currently drying to eat the contents of my two freezers and not put anything in them. The problem I’m finding is that 250g of diced chicken that has been frozen flat in a zip lock bag doesn’t take up as much room. It’s when I cook something with it, like yesterday I made a chicken goulash which was enough for three portions, so I ate one and put the other two in the freezer and of course each of them alone take up more room than the initial portion of chicken, so now I have even less freezer space. Oh well at least I won’t need to buy much food for a few months so can hopefully save a bit of money.

I have dug out a lamb steak from the freezer to have with some salad today for dinner.

The forecast is for a nice day here so hopefully I will be able to go for a walk in the park this afternoon and blow some of the cobwebs away.

I hope that you all have a good day. Take care x

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Nelski, my thoughts are with you and your family. So sorry for your loss xx
Thank you nmlc for starting the thread x

I have been awake since 2.45 but surprisingly I don't feel at all tired. I have just made and eaten a lovely cooked breakfast which will unfortunately torture my poor hubby all day as he doesn't have time to do more than shower and eat a bowl of cereal before work.

It's a busy day for me today as DD14 has an appointment with her psychiatrist today, my lovely CMHT lady is coming to see me to help me with some forms and my hairdresser is coming after the girls get home from school. I am going for the chop as I get so hot in the summer.

I lost another pound at Slimming World which I was very pleased about. I had lots of naughty food last week as I was feeling rather stressed about everything. I am so glad I went to my meeting as I have come back all fired up to do well this week. My daughter got her stone award as well which was fantastic.

I am going to make tuna pasta bake for tea. I have lost a bit of confidence in the kitchen as two meals I cooked last week were just awful. I will be making easy and familiar recipes for a bit until I feel brave enough to try something new again.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good morning, I'm sitting about with toast and marmite, delicious breakfast.

It is my birthday and I am 66 now, yesterday I saw a photo of myself and wish I hadn't, I looked like a cross between the Witch of Endor and Methusela. I usually take the day off on my birthday but I have to go in, I need to be at a meeting that couldn't be rearranged due to other people's commitments and then we are having a retirement afternoon tea for a colleague, younger than me. We have several more of these in the next few months and I am already the oldest fossil in the cliff.

Nelski, I hope the coming days and weeks are not too hard for you, please take care of yourself.

Hollyharvey, I do have a trolley, a beautiful old wicker one but the wheels need replacing. It has just two wheels and that makes it easier to tilt on kerbs and to pull along, just a thought.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible, given the appalling things that seem to be going on in the world.

Edited to add well done Dumpling, you are managing the weight loss thing so well. Thinking about confidence in the kitchen, I'm generally a good baker but my retiring colleague has to have gluten free stuff so my cakes for her don't look as appealling as they usually do, am hoping that they aren't too heavy. I've made a lemon drizzle and a satsuma drizzle, since I had them left over, and flapjacks as she likes them but those never do look pretty.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Happy Birthday AOD, hope you have a great day. :bdaycake:

    Morning All

It's a bit miserable out there, the washing has gone on the pulley. Seems ages since I put any outside.

Met up with friends after work yesterday, was disappointed with my meal but the chat was good. DD is coming into work today for some more work experience, she was a great help last week, put the useless lad to shame! We had interviews yesterday for my new playmate - 2 withdrew and one didn't turn up, the rest didn't seem overly exciting. Shame as there were nearly 200 applicants so the best ones could have been missed.

No swimming today, will have to go for a walk later.

Thinking of you Nelski. Take care all.

Hugs to Nelski and anyone else in need.
Happy birthday AOD, I'm the oldest at work too, by about 10 years, lots of nasty comments made by some colleagues, roll on October.
The network is flaky today so work will be fun.
I have a fasting blood test at 8:30, I've been up since 5 so I'm gagging for a cuppa.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

Happy Birthday AOD - hope you have plenty of cake.

It's dull here. Not nice at all. Just as well I've got my two hour teaching session this morning. After that I have to drive right down the peninsula to Campbeltown for a meeting which will go on until 4.30pm. It's a bit of a pia but we don't often have meetings and it planning for the next academic year.

DM's spare room looks lovely, it's surprising what a new bright carpet does. Mind you, the other carpet was second hand when she had it put down in her house in 1976! The upstairs neighbour was moving, the carpet was only two years old and it fitted the room. The fitter yesterday was astonished as the carpet was sewn together at joints. Now that's very MSE!

My car was loaded with unwanted stuff so I trailed round the CS, the tip and a neighbour depositing things. We found a large stash of Laura Ashley remnant material with the date of 1976 in the selvedge. Seems to have been an important date in DMs life.

Anyway, rainy and misty though it's meant to clear. I'll take a jacket in case the weather doesn't want to do what the forecaster says.

    Happy Wednesday.

    Morning :hello:

Nels I'm so sorry about your dad, I'm thinking of you and your family xx
We're all here if you need to chat x

Speky I'm glad you're settling in quickly, can't believe you're decorating already! :D

    Happy Birthday ancientofdays :bdaycake:

Dad's been offered chemo, there's a few cancer cells on the end of a couple of blood vessels. The doc says it's up to him whether to have it or not, a lot of people don't bother if the cells are dormant – I didn't understand it all but something called quiescence, which I'll be googling later, lol. Dad said he didn't go through an op and be halfway through 28 days of injecting himself to just leave it so he going to have it. It'll be a tiny dose and if he does have side effects – sickness, etc – they'll be really mild. So it's all good so far.

My shoulder prefers me to sleep propped up, my hip likes for me to be led flat. Whatever I do, one of them protests the next day, lol. I'm favouring my shoulder at the moment, it's healing faster than my hip so as soon as that's back to normal, I'll be in a proper bed again and hopefully on my way to non-limpiness :D

Someone has cleaned the hob, I'm not sure who but when I came down after my shower last night, it was done :D I'm going to hoover and sweep today, but only because it's mostly dog fur on the carpets and bits walked in by Scampi in the kitchen.

Master tru was supposed to be home on friday, with his worker bloke, to sort, clean and service his tools. He changed his mind last night and decided to do it today, which has riled me. I won't moan about it yet because it might not be too bad, but if it is I'll have a good rant on here tomorrow, lol.
