Can I buy a house when my home ain't up for sale yet?

I have seen a lovely house that I have totally fell in love with i am going to view it and put an offer on it. But i have not yet put MY house up for sale yet. I'm getting it ready when I have a chance after work as the agents have said asap to putting it up for sale.
Will i get my dream home? Any info would be great thank u :j:money:

As above, entirely depends on the vendor. If I was them I wouldn't be accepting any offers from you until you are proceedable.0

So maybe put my house up for sale now quickly then they may give me a chance? Even IF my house was up for sale they wouldn't go near me anyway right or?0

How can you make an offer on a house when you are not in a position to proceed, when you have a firm offer on your house then you can make offers on a prospective purchase.
Unless of course you can afford to buy another house without selling your own.0 -
Of course you can make an offer, on the proviso that you are willing to price your house keenly for a quick sale. If your offer is better than others the seller's are likely to accept. I'd certainly be prepared to wait, say, 4-6 weeks extra for another 5k!0

I suppose this can go either way it just depends on the sellers wishes. But if that was the other way round i would say yes but still keep me options open to other offers?0

1. If you offer and they still market it, it makes it more desirable to others (human nature)
2. If you offer and they accept and it takes 4 months to sell, you'll still be paying that price. They are very likely to have dropped the price if you didn't offer.
3. It doesn't give you much wriggle room on what you're selling. You might be able to accept a lower offer if the house you want will take an offer too (been there done that). If you had to drop the price on yours, would you still afford the other house?
Several other minor reasons which all add up to a big fat 'WAIT'.
Don't view houses if you're likely to be emotionally attached. I'm selling and looking and have one in the wings, but if we lose it we lose it.

The vendor can't accept your offer - because you're not in a position to buy their house. I suppose if they are not in a rush and like you it may happen i.e. they may wait for you. Get an offer on your house - then you can make a proceedable offer.0

There was a recent thread or comment on here where someone's offer was accepted, but I've no idea if that chain is complete yet. Must say, everyone was a little surprised they'd actually accepted.
We also have a vague offer/interest noted on the house we like, but it's not currently on the market so it's a bit different really. We talk on email occasionally with the owner saying we'll keep her updated, but that's it really until we get an offer. She may remarket in the meantime.
