Can I be charged for a repair

My Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge recently had an update and is now failing to boot up and failing to stay awake .

O2 are suggesting I may have to pay for a repair . I still have six months of a 2 year contract to go.... any ideas folks

can I be charged?

Seems unfair to charge me for a repair of a problem caused by an over the air update.

Warrenty is probably one year. Your contract is probably seperate.

And under statutory rights you would have to prove it was there when sold and by your admission it was due to an update. Guess you update at your own risk.

OTA updates aren't a choice. They are released by Samsung and altered and approved by O2. If (and I'm sceptical) the update did cause the problem I can't see how they wouldn't be accountable.

But have you tried clearing the cache and failing that a factory reset before turning to O2? It's fairly likely to be a software issue that you could solve yourself, and therefore one which O2 would be justified in charging to resolve.

The Samsung warranty will be 2 years providing the phone was new and not refurbished. But I don't know enough to give you any advice beyond that.
  • Thanks for that.

I regarded the update to be a security update that the network gave me .
I suppose I will find out soon enough if I am to be charged.
  • Appreciate your help it's very kind of you

Next time you should probably research your options a little more.

You could have taken the phone in to a walk in service centre, phoned them, used live chat, FB messenger or twitter.
