If you paid a cheque in today to your bank before 3.30pm, most banks would have it cleared and be able to withdraw by Friday.
Can you really not wait 3 days and would be wiling to lose a large percentage of your funds just because of that?I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Looking at OPs posting history I believe the reason is that they don't want the money going anywhere it can be taken0

You can ask your bank for direct presentation or whatever they call it cost £20 but clear in a day0

You used to be able to take it into the issuing bank and get it in cash, for which an expired driving license is probably fine (they won't check with the DVLA) unless they want a proof of address as well.
Much easier just getting it paid into your own bank account.0 -
I work for cash Generator.
We would look for - passport, drivers license(needs to be in date) any letters from government - so a letter showing benefits would be ok. That would do for proof of person and then we would require proof of address - so bank statement or utility bill etc.
hope this helps0 -

No and No.
Government cheques cannot be sent by direct presentation.
You pay to find out the fate of the cheque but you don't get the money any earlier.0 -
When my son had a tax rebate a few months ago, the letter he received from HM Revenue & Customs made no mention of a cheque.
The letter said he should claim the money back online via a 'Personal Tax Account' and the money would be in his account within 4 to 5 days, which he did and the money was credited the next day.
The letter added that if he didn't do this, then a payable order would be sent after 45 days."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
