    I have never been asked for copies of my certificates, but my OH who has degrees, has to provide proof for every job she is offered.

    Congratulations.
    My experience is similar to the last poster. Never asked for qualifications before i got my degree (got a degree a bit later in life) but have been asked for a copy of the degree certificate every time since.
